Reba Show's dufus son-in-law!
lawriter-508372 March 2023
What is wrong with this show? It is action, adventure, tech, weapons, tech, it is super. So what is it? Not location, not story, the writers did good. What is so off? Harry Tasker!

The goofball from the awful comedy program REBA! The other cast members are okay and might improve over time, but Steve Howey is the fly in the pudding. I can only guess the producer creator developer sank money into the set/ location/ gadgets, and not enough to pay for a better cast. A nobody bodybuilder can do a better job. A guy with a commanding voice, but this man is Don Knots. Helen Tasker is nothing like Jaime Kee Curtis. Where did you dig her up? Very disappointing I expected better, even on a low budget series. CBS lost Magnum PI, and this is on? What a blundering move. Glad NBC picked up Magnum. I strongly doubt True Lies will make it. Two years?

A little cheap

Warning: Spoilers
I feel like they did a good job with the actors and the screen writing. The only things I had a problem with are the tech, action scenes and just the special effects were horrible for example in a scene where there was fire, you could obviously tell it was fake. This show has so much potential I like the storyline in the first episode but it just needs more money. Maybe if the show continues they will put more into it and it'll get better. I don't know how I feel about the actor that plays Harry he's good but doesn't really show all the potential his character has.

I liked this show and I will continue to watch it in the hopes it gets better. Maybe I'm too use to watching expensive movie creations such as marvel.

The Pilot Had Action, Gadgets, And Was Funny!
talkteav2 March 2023
With all the health-conscious people today, who says that a computer Salesman can't be physically fit? Arnold was pure muscle in the movie! (That was an actual complaint about the new series)

The pilot episode for True Lies gave me a great look at the direction and what I can hope to expect for this first season. The vibe felt familiar but had a faster pace telling Harry and Hellen's story when compared to the movie.

It will come down to a matter of preference, but (for me), I like that the showrunners are not wasting time stretching the story out with multiple lies and cover-ups between husband and wife, which is fine for a drama but often feels slow and disruptive when watching an action-adventure series. But no worries, because with two kids in the dark, there will definitely be more lies and cover-ups.

It was also a great choice to start Hellen off with a set of skills and throw her into the action early. I hope this means that while the show continues to pay its respect to the film, we will get more of a what happened next in Harry and Hellen's life as married spies.

The atmosphere of the pilot episode is upbeat, and five minutes in, we get action and gadgets. Yes! And keep it moving like this, please! We don't get a deep dive into each character on Harry's team, but I still enjoyed the little I did see of the ensemble. It's perfect for (flexible) fans who wanted a sequel to the movie or for anyone who loved shows like Mission Impossible, The A-Team, and Burn Notice.

I usually don't enjoy pilot episodes, but was honestly entertained by this first episode. I'm interested in the possible backstories we may get from the other characters and look forward to seeing how Harry and Hellen's working relationship develops.

As always, you made it this far, thank you for reading, and if you watch this series, or have recommendations, let me know your thoughts.

Ho Hum Dribble

From character development and plot summary to conversational script the writers on this were either hired from the cleaning staff or they have no sense of what goes into the success of this type of subject matter.

Either way they should find a different line of work!

The directing is also a flop, especially when it comes to action scenes.

Here's an idea.. just because you saw the action scenes in a movie once it doesn't mean you should try and pack them all in a poorly constructed and executed way into your pilot episode and just be happy with the way it was performed.

I actually like the actors in this..but that's the ONLY thing good I can say about it.

HARD PASS.

True fun
redinnevada5 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Don't listen to any negative or "shoulda been better" or not believable jibberjabber.

This opening episode was just True Lies FUN style, like the movie. The movie was pure fun, not MEANT to be a serious type action/drama/OR spy type offering.

JUST fun! This show captured that all.

Howey was great as Harry (he was funny in shameless too, Kevin Ball is fine by me), the actress who plays Helen was a great casting choice (not familiar with her stuff but appears to have her chops about her).

I hope the writing stays tight to be at least half-way plausible. That's the only area I could see becoming a problem (how do you have endless jobs where you teacher wife has to go too?).

I'm happy to see it. Hope it sticks.
