India Lockdown review :

We are probably the first (and hopefully last) generation to have experienced a disease induced country wide lockdown- something which taught us to work from/at home and made online communication a part of our everyday lives. Only this lockdown which started on the fateful evening of 24th March and extended till mid June 2020 wasn't as kind for the lower middle and labour class who lost their bread and butter...and some their lives!!

Madhur Bhandarkar, acclaimed for his realistic cinema, chooses this grim chapter which will invariably find a place in Indian history. " Bomb blasts, 26/11 aur floods mein bhi Mumbai chalta raha...yeh Corona naam ki kya musibat hai!!" goes the lament which accurately reflects the mood of that time. Indeed, the Covid lockdown was something unprecedented, harsh but highly essential as a precautionary measure.

Bhandarkar chooses to showcase all classes of the society to reflect how the covid lockdown impacted every Indian. There is a senior citizen (Prakash Belawadi) stuck in locked up Mumbai when he was about to travel to Hyderabad for his daughter's delivery. A migrant couple (Prateik Babbar- Sai Tamhankar) lose their jobs in Mumbai and have no option but to walk all the way to their hometown in Bihar. A lady pilot (Aahana Kumra) befriends her new "virgin" neighbour and they get close in this lockdown state. Lastly, a Kamathipura prostitute (Shweta Basu Prasad) runs out of business and devises a new trick to earn some grub - phone sex.

The screenplay is fast paced as well as relatable to a significant extent. The hardships faced by every strata is accurately explored by Bhandarkar without making the movie appear like a mundane documentary. His trademark flair for mixing commercial elements in to realism is evident once again. The climax where all the sub plots merge together seamlessly is also commendable.

Bhandarkar has the knack of extracting the best from his ladies and he doesn't disappoint here as well. Shweta Basu Prasad is simply outstanding, Sai Tamhankar is utterly convincing as the hapless poor migrant coping with blatant passes made at her and lastly, Aahana Kumra springs a pleasant surprise with her superlative act reminding you of the seductive Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate (1967). I wish the film was bold enough to consumate her love...but alas!!

Prateik Babbar is another well etched character and the way he rummages through garbage for a piece of food is gut wrenching. Certain scenes create a shock value like an ambulance used by a vile corporator for sex and a well to do dude casually dismissing covid as a sham dying of the same in no time.

All in all, India Lockdown is certainly worth a one time watch. It is a near accurate account of all the breaking news we saw and read in those turbulent times when survival was more important than personal progress. Fortunately, we all lived to see a film made on it today. Cheers for that!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

You won't want to miss this Zee 5 because of the compelling storyline and superb performances. As a group, the actors have done a good job. Overall, it's a must-see. If you haven't seen it yet, you should. The plot, music, and collaboration in this picture are all excellent. This is a movie that I'd suggest to my whole social circle. In order to keep things interesting, the story of the film is what sets it apart from others. Filmmakers and directors should also be recognized for their work. He has demonstrated that he can compete with the greatest, which is an understatement. This is something that my whole family and I am interested in, so please pay attention. They all work together to create a family-friendly movie that's both entertaining and educational!

This is a film that I would suggest to everyone of my family and friends. Finally, the film's distinguishing feature is its story, which keeps you watching to the end without becoming tedious; congratulations to the writers, director, and all performers. There are humour, drama, and romantic situations to appreciate. Everything about this book was fantastic, from the characters to the plot. From conception to end, the cooperation was outstanding! Everyone should go watch this! I just became aware of a great family film that is both humorous and uplifting. The Director and Writer should be commended for bringing this treasure to the big screen. This made me laugh so hard that I couldn't stop myself.

Story was amazing

Warning: Spoilers
A film with excellent pacing, acting, and production values. The performances and character development are superb. Very impressive maturity in dealing with a sensitive issue. If you haven't seen it yet, make plans to do so in the theater. The reason Bollywood only makes movies that are certain to make a profit is because we, the Western audience, refuse to see the excellent ones when they are made. You won't be sorry if you give it a go, I'm sure of it. Excellent music, compelling story, superb performance, and profound meaning. To put it simply, it was fantastic. It is very suggested that everyone see this film. In India, the film has been universally praised for its excellence.

Superficial Content
cifarshayar9 December 2022
India Lockdown lost the opportunity to critique or making a statement on Lockdown happened in India. It lost the opportunity to comment on irresponsible media coverage, on government's apathy, on lack of PPE kits and other medical needs during that period. Madhur Bhandarkar never in entire screenplay mentions government or Modi or any other leader. Not even a logical ending, it was not clear what he want to show through this movie. Where were the scenes of Thali-Tali Bajao, where were mention of Candle lighting, where were shown doctors dedication, where it was shown how even people were not deserved dignified death rituals.

Sameer lodaya.

This is the worst ever show of lockdown presented

Madhur bhandarkars disastrous in a row after babli bouncer..,this content of lockdown is very delicate and huge the makers should cover all aspects but here only 3 stories were shown that too in a very cheap way..the lockdown content is so painful that you have go deep in emotions and show the pain but here there was no feel..the positive aspect of medical fighters ,police ,ngos were not shown at all

Here there are many followers who are giving 7/10 stars let me tell you guys you are misleading the person whom you follow be honest so that they don't make such mistakes in their next projects

Very sorry to the entire team for negative review.

A screen world of tension and darkness this is a colourful jewel. As a theatre director of multicultural actors I enjoyed

plot, characters, actors and especially the stunning final dance sequence set in an invited dance performance between the warring couple. The director is to be commended on casting. It contained fun, dillema, heartbreak, gender power play and family concern for the protagonists. The strong relationship between the two leads was visible from beginning to end. I particularly liked the cameo roles played by friends and family, mother particularly. Thoroughly recommended to watch.

Great Zee5
motusaha2 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first half of movie had, indeed, a lot of Indian movie characteristics that made me feel the difference between hollywoodian movies and the bollywoodian - I suppose there is where this movie came from - ones. Besides the funny parts - expected from a self described comedian movie - the movie was disappointing me... until it started the second part. This final part added the drama needed for a perfect movie: it showed us real human problems. Even more: it showed how to solve it. All in a funny way. The main problem of the movie was: should we follow our heart to do what we like in our professional choice or just do what our parents "suggests"? Other secundary problems - but not less important were showed as well and - all the adventure to solve it made the movie simply beautiful. Highly recommended.

In a nutshell, THIS IS THE

GREATEST INDIAN FILM EVER MADE. It's old, know, but just recently learned about it and watched it yesterday. When it comes to the top 250 films of all time, I believe this one should be included. I rated it a perfect 10/10, but I believe it deserves greater recognition. In order for you to get the most out of seeing the film, I won't reveal any plot details in my review. After 2 hours and 44 minutes, you will feel everything from laughter to tears to joy to drama to intense emotion. Also, GENIALITY is the film's crowning achievement. Totally love this movie mind blowing.

India Lockdown Is Another Letdown From Madhur Bhandarkar
SAMTHEBESTEST3 December 2022
India Lockdown (2022) : Movie Review -

Madhur Bhandarkar's India Lockdown is no different from other lockdown-based webseries and OTT original films we have seen in the last couple of years, but anyway, what a big bore it is. Madhur seems to have lost his Midas a decade ago, or maybe even before that, after he made "Fashion" (2008), his last well-made film, in my opinion. Post Jail (2009), he just couldn't deliver on his level and subsequently went lower with each passing film. This year, he had a terrible film like "Babli Bouncer," and India Lockdown is just a nice follow-up to that.

India Lockdown doesn't have a specific script like a feature film-I mean, the proper hero, heroine, love, drama, and action kind of stuff. It'sa story we all know because we all witnessed it in 2020. The film starts off in the prelude period of Lockdown 1.0. The people have just heard about the Corona virus, but they are not ready for the catastrophe, pandemic, lockdown, or whatever you want to call it. The film follows the lives of many people, divided into four parallel stories: a father-daughter duo stuck in different cities; a sex worker and her troubles; a migrant worker with bare resources; and a female pilot who begins a platonic affair with her teenage neighbour. While doing so, the writer leaves a lot of loopholes for you to dig into and raise a question: did people really behave like that?

The writing is the main fault. Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah needed no research material to cook up a nice script, but they couldn't even present the simple life issues of common people. A commercial pilot is supposed to be intelligent, but here we have the girl cracking lame jokes with senseless humour. Her teenage neighbour and his girlfriend have nothing to do with their lives but talk about losing their virginity (while the people nearby are losing their lives). The sex worker is honestly brutal about her job and money, but suddenly becomes a female messiah (don't ask how?). The migrant worker and his wife would bore you to death with their unadjusted behaviour and hunger issues, which would appeal to nobody. How are there so many flaws in a story that is based on true events and characters from recent times?

Talking about performances, the boat seems to be floating better. Shweta Basu Prasad goes overboard in a few scenes, but the rest of the time, she stands out as the best performer in this big casting unit. Prakash Belawadi finished second after her, while Sai Tamhankar came in third place despite having less screentime. Aahana Kumra looks hot and sexy, but I wish I could have said something good like this for her performance. Satvik Bhatia, Zarin Shihab, Sanand Varma, Ayeesha Aimen, and Chahat Tewani are somewhat noticeable, while Hrishita Bhatt's friendly appearance only flashes on a laptop or mobile screen.

Technically, India Lockdown is a big letdown. The screen colour suddenly changes without any reason, so it's hard to believe that we were watching a film set in the same time period. The sepia effect to Prateik Babbar and Sai Tamhankar's story, the lightly blue screen for Aahana Kumra, and the excessively dark tone to Shweta's Wadi are all unexplained. The music and background score do nothing except drag the pace further. Madhur Bhandarkar has left the film dead, just like how Lockdown left many of us uncabled. There was so much to explore from the issues and struggles of common people during the lockdown period, especially the first two months (March, April, and May in 2020), but Bhandarkar picked filmy drama elements, only to cook his so-called realistic feature film full of abuses and uncomfortable moments that you can't see with your family. Moreover, the boring screenplay and flawed storytelling take away novelty factors, leaving you with a two-hour semi-headache. Overall, a lockdown story that should be locked and chained (just like the poster) in a quarantine room as it could be harmful to sensible movie watchers.

RATING - 4/10*

One time watch movie
kainatrc14 December 2022
The director of this movie Madhur Bhandarkar has chosen a tough topic India lockdown. The movie is good and anyone can feel and relate with this movie. What we faced and how we faced and what happened during lockdown will become fresh after watching it. I think it was one of the scariest and depressing time we all went through during Corona times. The topic is vast and it's not possible to show everything in one single movie yet the director tried his best to show about the fear among the people and the conditions of the people to arrange the necessary items for them. The daily wage workers were badly affected by the effect of Corona and lockdown. Since the topic was vast so after watching it gives you a feeling of something missing or the movie was incomplete. Yes it's a one time watch movie and I think our next generation would love this movie more than us. Because we have experienced it but they will know it not only by the stories told by us but also by watching it.

Not worth watching.
Perspicuity127 January 2023
India Lockdown tries to depict how COVID and the lockdowns that followed affected the lives of people belonging to the various sections of Indian society. Now, this is not the first film made with the backdrop of coronavirus, and in all probability it won't be the last as well, but the thing that matters is that regardless of how important an event you select as the backdrop of your movie, it needs to be told in the form of a story, otherwise it would feel like a documentary, something that holds true for this film as well. Some things are happening in the film, but it's not quite clear as to what is the intention of the director, what exactly does he want to say through this movie. It looks like the director and his research team picked up some examples from real life and put them into this movie, but forgot to weave them into a properly structured story.

Among the four stories being told simultaneously, the story that moves you the most is the one with Prateik Babbar and Sai Tamhankar. One of the most heartbreaking consequences of the lockdown was the mass exodus of migrant workers, and we get a first-hand experience of that traumatic phase through Madhav and his wife, as they wander around helplessly on the streets. It was as it is depressing to revisit those visuals once again, but the believability with which those two actors have portrayed their roles made it even more painful to watch. Prateik Babbar and Sai Tamhankar are extremely underrated actors and both of them have given a beautiful performance in this segment of the movie.

The Mehrunissa chapter with Shweta Basu Prasad also felt like a retelling of some real life instances that may have happened during the lockdown, there was no real story there. I kept wondering as to where are we headed with this, what is the point of what we are watching, but I got nothing. It feels as if the director just wanted to show how sex workers were operating during coronavirus, that's all. The problem however with this kind of filmmaking is that your movie starts to look like a documentary. Shweta Basu Prasad is a very capable actress, but in most of the scenes of this movie, she was extremely loud and over the top. Perhaps she was trying to impersonate some real life sex worker, but she should have kept it a few notches lower. It was only towards the end that she gave a glimpse of the brilliance that she possesses as an actress.

Prakash Belawadi was extremely grounded in his portrayal of Nageshwar, but his segment too felt like a soulless piece of screenplay. Through Nageshwar's story, the director was telling us something that we are already aware of. If we wanted to see things happening around us, we would watch the news or read it; we don't watch a movie for that. Events taking place around us are supposed to be used as the setting, something that helps the director in laying down the basic groundwork of his main story; turning that particular news story into your screenplay is just lazy work. The main focus has to be there on the main characters and their journey, otherwise there is no real point of making a film.

The segment with Dev, Palak and Moon Alvez was not only dull and predictable but also the weakest in terms of acting performances. While the young actors just didn't know how to act, Aahana Kumra on the other hand was extremely loud in every single scene.

No one likes to watch a boring and poorly written film, but unfortunately that is precisely what 'India Lockdown' is.

At its best, filmmaking. One of the greatest tv series I've watched in a long time. This is a fantastic film that is both intriguing and well-written. It's a wonderful picture, and the characters are excellent, in my view. Tv series is full family entertaining....all the actors have done their job very well ....everything is shown very well in the Zee5 comedy , emotions , love ....songs are also good ....This movie is really so fantastic and very excellent. I enjoyed this movie so much. I've recently been aware of a great family film that is both humorous and uplifting. The Director and Writer should be praised for bringing this treasure to the big screen. This made me laugh so hard I could not control my laughing. After impressing the critics, India lockdown is now prepared to take on the general audience, and I am certain that it will perform well. The year's most outstanding film. It is now time to finally take a chance.

The greatest film in Indian cinematic history that I have ever watched. Top Comedy, somewhat romantic The plot was fantastic. The finest aspect of the movie is Aamir Khan, who is perfect for the role. Beginning of the movie till its conclusion Really Outstanding I'll laugh aloud if I continue to watch it. MOVIE. A moving film with many of societal teachings. When you watch this movie from beginning to end, it's as if you're traveling the whole way with the characters. It encourages enjoyment and amusement while also stimulating thought. I've already seen it 100 times, and you'll still like it. Funny, uplifting, and moving, it imparts many life lessons and shows how to live!!! BRAVO!!!!

Only watched the TV SERIES because of Aahana, She is always amazing, Really Love her.

The story is good, there were some scenes which reflects important lessons and motivation in certain aspects of life.

The TV SERIES is simple with few characters. The vicinity of the scenes were elegant and outclass, The interior decoration of the whole set were amazing, (both office or home scenes). Everything looks great on monalisa, no matter which dress she wears, She always looks flawless and beautiful. She is an amazing actress, and also a great person in real life. She really enjoys small things in life and value relations.

Propaganda movie to show India in a bad light
yogesh0315 August 2023
This is full of lies about the lockdown in India. A country of 1.3 billion people that scathed thru the pandemic relatively unharmed. The government fed people during lockdown and even after lockdown till today. 80 Crore people (800 million) have been getting free food from India. Govt. All Indians got free vaccine that are digitally traceable thru Mobil phones but this director only shows the negative side of India even during such tough times. It's just ridiculous. Bollywood, that warms crores in India didn't take care of their staff and many went jobless. These thankless folks are now blaming the same govt in this movie that took care of their staff whom the bollywoodiyas threw out on the streets.

This film made me smile, it made me laugh and you can tell the sistaaahhhs had the best time stepping back into their little witchy boots! I adore that got a little more airtime in this film and you could absolutely tell that Sarah was having great fun! She made me laugh so much! I didn't go into this with a comparison of the first movie, I saw this as it's own identity and a celebration of the first! All see is people comparing it to the original but that's not the point of this film! This isn't a remake, it's a continuation of the chaos! And I think it's great! And the fact they jumped straight back into the roles, almost 30 years later, and nothing has changed is iconic and I am so happy this film happened! 10/10 for me!

Mild
akshaykamble25 January 2023
Having lived through the harrowing COVID-19 pandemic and all that it changed in our lives is an experience that we will never forget. It left a deep impact on our psyche and for better or for worse, in many ways, it acted as a huge unifier in our diverse societal landscape. Yet, each one of us had to endure the pandemic, and especially, the lockdown, in a different way. Some had to deal with sheer boredom and loneliness, while some had to battle the pros and cons of working from home and doing domestic chores among other problems. The magnitude of each one's problems could be different, but we all had to live through times that no one in the world was prepared for. And that's what made it scary, and traumatic for many.

More than 2 years after the first countrywide lockdown in India, director Madhur Bhandarkar and his writers (Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah) have come up with a compilation of stories that are real and relatable. It's a rather simplistic take and a micro approach to what happened during the pandemic in the lives of people across social strata. In them is a retired senior citizen L Nageshwar Rao (Prakash Belawadi), a poor couple Madhav (Pratiek Babbar) and Phoolmati (Sai Tamhankar) doing odd jobs and struggling to make ends meet, a sex worker Mehrunnisa (Shweta Basu Prasad), a pilot, Moon Alves (Aahana Kumra) and testosterone-charged young lovers Dev (Satvik Bhatiaa) and Palak (Zarin Shihab), who are separated physically, due to the lockdown.

Most of what these characters go through is inspired from real events, hence, one can identify with their situation. The story is largely predictable and also filled with quite a few cliches in terms of its characterisations. A few talented actors like Prakash Belawadi, and Sai Tamhankar excel in their respective parts. Prateik Babbar makes an honest attempt but still doesn't come across as convincing as he should while Shweta Prasad Basu is loud and over-the-top. Aahana Kumra, Satvik Bhatiaa and Zarin Shihab are good in their respective roles.

While this Madhur Bhandarkar directorial lacks the depth and layering in characters like we saw in some of his finest works ('Page 3', 'Chandni Bar' and 'Fashion'), it does have moments that will touch your heart and remind you of the helplessness of the time. In the end, the fact that you can watch this film and perhaps see yourself in one of its characters, is a rewarding feeling of being alive.
