The Most Clever&Poignant Episode of 2020/2021
Quinn407715 October 2021
A truly clever as hell and touching episode, it is one of the top three of Season 5. Thanks to the technology of contemporary cellphones with FaceTime, texts, and voice calls, all four Pearson couples are simultaneously connected from at least six different spots across the country. This theme of technology, love, and connection - and all things Pearson - is cleverly arched by the telling of the story of a seemingly unconnected couple's history and the impact of the husband's work on today's world. "This Is Us" chose to include the Covid-19 pandemic into its plot this season to praise and criticism, but there is no other episode of the show that does so in such scale and poignancy. It definitely deserves a 10/10 for how clever the edition of the non-Pearson couple is and how essential their role is to the episode.

I didn't think Kevin would make it but when he did, it was just the best ever. I love Randall and Beth on face time helping madison too. I'd never expect anything less. Heartwarming, delightful and a total joy to watch

Perfect Feel Good TV

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge fan of this show and we are now lucky to get this in the UK the day after the US. I did think that Season 5 got off to a bit of a shaky start, however after the last 3 episodes I am happy to report that This Is Us is back to its best. With everything that's happening in the world, this show is the perfect pick me up and this episode in particular was the perfect conclusion to a number of story threads. Kevin and Randall, the new 'big three' and I was blown away by the incredibly clever twist with the supposed new characters seen at the start of this episode. Well done to everyone involved. Superb.

Remember the name Nasir Ahmed
sblrara29 March 2021
So many ups and downs in this episode and true to form, This is Us gives us a character we wont forget. We meet the new Big 3, all with beautiful and meaningful names. Don't do any googling to look up Nasir, I promise waiting to find out who he is is definitely worth it.

Thank you, This is Us. Thank you for this episode. I cry at a lot of them, but this one might be a top 5. Watch and enjoy because I know you wont be disappointed.

A Perfect, Moving Snapshot
jgershma20 June 2021
With a show as special as "This Is Us," there's always a chance you'll experience that rare episode you know will be timeless (see "Memphis" from Season 1). Rarer still, though, is the episode that perfectly captures a specific moment in time.

Years from now, when time has dulled the urgency of this pandemic, "In the Room" will probably seem like a dated remembrance of a difficult time. Know this, though-in the moment (as the US was approaching a half million deaths from COVID), this episode was a remarkable snapshot of exactly how we lived our lives. It was the choice, however, to incorporate Nasir Ahmed that turned a very good episode into something deeply personal and profoundly moving. In that moment the importance of his Ahmed's work is revealed, "This Is Us" has never felt more like "All of Us."

I am just so glad...
normabette17 February 2021
... that I have been promised a reboot in 20 or so years because this is my favourite show hands down.

I rate episodes according to whether or how much it made me cry (the more the better!) so my two favourite high rating scenes in this episode were Ellie giving her incredibly difficult speech to Hayley and the realisation of the reason for the scenes of Nasir and Esther. Just beautiful.

My heart is so lifted by the possibilities for Kevin and Randall's relationship. Not just reconciliation but true growth and connection. Welcome to parenthood Kevin!

Gary Clark????

Warning: Spoilers
Great episode, but can we not cast Michael O'Neill as the husband of another dying patient? He's great in everything else I've seen him in, but Grey's Anatomy made it so if he shows up in or near a hospital, I'm immediately suspicious and scared. Other than that, wonderful themes, writing, and acting all around. I hope they do come up with some way to make a spin off with the kids! This episode made me feel so bad for all the mothers who had to give birth during Corona virus. So glad it all worked out the way it did and everyone is happy. Here's to many more Pierson adventures in the next season.

Totally Got to Me
Hitchcoc14 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a rule, when a TV show centers on a wedding or the birth of a baby, I'm out of there. I always think it allows the writers to take a break because the viewers seem to enjoy these things, and not much is asked from the script. But this one really got to me. The way things were handled was quite touching. For one thing we get to see Randall and Beth in a car, heading across the desert, keeping Madison occupied while she waited to give birth. And, of course, there was the final appearance of Kevin who was there for the births. We also have the stresses of Kate who until the very end thought perhaps the mother may change her mind. Also, Toby in the hospital parking lot connecting with a man who was distressed over his wife being on a ventilator with covid. The man was initially angry but they eventually developed a closeness.

Subplots were Rebecca and Miguel waiting at the cabin for news, and a flashback to when the kids began to move away from the parents in normal teenage fashion. Also, a look at the development of a marriage between a man who developed the algorithm to use the internet for visual transference. This seemed out of place until we realize what a gift to the world this proved to be.

Let Down
Barry016917 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I love this show and this episode should get a 10, but I just feel manipulated and let down. Is Kevin going to make it to the delivery on time? Of course he is. What will Toby choose for a middle name? Of course it's Rose -- I called that one as soon as he told the other man he was trying to come up with a middle name. The twins and Kate's baby being born on the same day? Who'd have seen that coming? And the story about the guy who invented the technology for video conferencing? Did the writers not have enough to fill this episode? Disappointed.

An insult to those who cannot afford health care
wissia24 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So Kevin walks away on a job he's probably signed a contract for because his partner, about to give birth, is scared. The reviews here are ecstatic. Father of the year. Let me analyse that for a moment. We are, first of all, applauding somebody for not respecting their contractual obligations, after all the people in the crew probably had to quarantine for 2 weeks before starting shooting the movie and were away from their families making sacrifices during a pandemic just like Kevin was. But no, we are generation superficiality for which accountability is not a thing. Second: Kevin's partner is going through a comparably normal pregnancy, and he is paying for the fanciest private clinic you can think of. She is well looked after, very comfortable, and also has the future in-laws on a video call to keep her busy. Honestly, there are millions of people in the US who would dream of being able to be in such a situation. But no, we continue applauding the gesture of this man disregarding all those he is working with (and I am not thinking of the big stars, but the common crew who also have people they'd rather be) to run in help of a damsel in distress who's wining about absolutely nothing. She's in the best possible situation one can be given the circumstances. But no, we cry and we applaud Kevin because we continue to glorify grand gestures in the name of parenthood, even if in this case it is nothing else than a guilty-ridden man, full of inferiority complexes towards a brother and a dead father, who thinks that by rescuing his damsel in distress will prove his worth in the world. Pathetic.

Enough of Santa Barbara please
ladybug0618 February 2021
In a good way This is Us more and more reminds me of Santa Barbara or of a good quality Indian movie... It makes you cry and emotional and "oh, he/she/it is soooo cute". This season I miss some plotline developments, I understand the crew decided to include the pandemic in the plot, and BLM too, well then, a lot could be added in this respect. It is not a bad season, it just seems a bit that I am watching a different show.

Mind-numbingly dull
friisannakarin19 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Or should I say just totally off. I liked the first episodes of this season, really, but then once the storyline took off on this fanciful odd journey to discover Randall's birth mother all the sudden and then had Kevin by the roadside single-handedly helping a road traffic victim instead of acting with De Niro, I just could not cope with the oddities anymore. And then this last let-down, wasn't saved by Kevin miraculously still making it to the birth or that strange detour with the Indian who discovered how to compress data (yeah, I know it is significant, but it was unthinkable still in the 90s so their claim that computerised image transmission would have been invented in the 60s is just nonsense, of course he did his bit with and invention that did contribute to mobile comms later, but still). It feels so contrived, as if they keep dragging out the series but it lost all claims to authenticity
