Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023)
One of the gems of 'what happens after happlily ever after'
Wow, I just can't believe how good it is. Never cared much for spinoffs. But this one has so much more depth than the main story.
The actors are great. The king is so handsome.
Seeing Catelyn Stark back in such a powerful role is a treat.
There is for sure more drama here than in the main series, and I really was emotional and cared for the plot, because it kind of made me forget that I was watching Bridgerton where happy end is inevitable (taking into account we know the end of the story of Queen Charlotte from seasons 1 and 2); so I was nervous and 'jumped' at the plot twists.
It is not frequent that movies to speak of older love, what actually is 'lived happily ever after'; and this show is for sure one of the gems on the subject. Thank you!
This Is Us: In the Room (2021)
Enough of Santa Barbara please
In a good way This is Us more and more reminds me of Santa Barbara or of a good quality Indian movie... It makes you cry and emotional and "oh, he/she/it is soooo cute". This season I miss some plotline developments, I understand the crew decided to include the pandemic in the plot, and BLM too, well then, a lot could be added in this respect. It is not a bad season, it just seems a bit that I am watching a different show.
Bridgerton (2020)
I hope I had known it is based on those soft-cover novels for women...
After Downton Abbey and The Tudors I think I just expected too much. Until the end I was waiting for something complicated and meaningful. No way. It is based on a series of soft-cover books for women (which I, being myself a woman, can read from time to time), and gives only that - a romantic story, with the simplest plot and very predictable storyline. Not bad, but the wows around it seem for sure exaggerated.
I can hardly guess what caused all the excited reviews. Yes, it is beautifully shot, yes, the actors are pleasant to watch at, yes, different nationalities are represented just like in everyday life, but nothing more than that.
I can only thank the authors that they made it only 8 episodes long, where they could make 28 episodes of this soap opera easily. 8 episodes is an advantage.
I think it is better to watch Bridgertons without reading all the excited reviews before that, and then it can be a light and entertaining pastime. However, I would not want to watch it again.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Final season spoilt the overall impression, do not watch it
I know a zillion people already expressed my opinion, but decided to put in a word, too. Yes, I also spent my time and some money watching all the episodes, waiting, trying to guess, thinking about the Jon Snow dilemma... And the final season spoilt the whole overall impression, to the extent where whatever was good there in the previous seasons, does not matter. We waited for 2 years for that final season.
And what we got was... Many words have been said about it.
Game of Thrones set a high standard for TV series, it is a historic show; but it also got to history as the show that spoilt everything with the final season the worst way.
Game of Thrones is a great example how a bright global show can turn into nothing, and the worst thing - the film makers blame the audience that they did not understand or like it properly.
Game of Thrones is an example how you can take the attention of millions, use it, and then throw it away without even thinking about it.
Whoever is thinking about watching Game of Thrones - you can watch it, but do not watch the final season, do not go there.
