A lot to digest in this episode of Peyton Place!
FloridaFred4 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a somewhat bizarre episode of Peyton Place, with a substitute actor standing-in for Martin Peyton, an announcement that Jack Chandler is dead, and the introduction of the long lost "Eddie Jacks".

As for Martin Peyton's character being covered by stand-in actor Wilfrid Hyde-White, it has happened before. The prime example is when actress Dorothy Malone underwent surgery; her character Constance Mackenzie was temporarily replaced by actress Lola Albright.

But with the potent announcement by Martin Peyton that he is engaged to marry Adrienne Van Leyden, it might have been more apropos to wait for George Macready to return to the set.

Also in this episode, the writers finally dispense with character Jack Chandler. Elliott Carson informs us that Chandler has been killed by police in Atlanta, Georgia. But Chandler (actor John Kellogg) does not make an appearance in this show. Chandler was last seen several episodes ago.

Writing off Jack Chandler this way was a lousy ending to one of the dominant story-lines of the entire Peyton Place series. The bizarre relationship between "Uncle Jack Chandler" and niece Rachel Welles covered almost eight months. A dramatic shoot-out between Chandler and the police would have made a great grand finale. But we just hear a few lines by Elliott Carson, and Chandler is gone. Poor script writing!

Finally, yet another new player arrives in Peyton Place. Only this guy is an old player... he is the long missing husband of Ada Jacks. Actor Dan Duryea portrays Eddie Jacks. As the show ends, Eddie Jacks is lurking in the shadows, eavesdropping on Leslie Harrington and sons Norman and Rodney. We can't wait to see what the writers have in store regarding this shady guy!
