For fans of Arthur Ransome, this drama-documentary is excellent and throws light on his exciting life before Swallows and Amazons. Who would have guessed from those books that he was closely involved in the Russian Revolution, had been to and fro to the country as a correspondent and had escaped from the country with Lenin's secretary and nearly lost his life? He comes across as really brave. (Recently, however, much doubt has been cast on his account of these events).
Simon Tcherniak is extremely good in the role. Although he was a good many years too young for the role when the film was made, he nevertheless looks very much like the photos of Ransome from those days.
