89 Gator Mine's story and development is perfect Josh Slates' in that it appears at first to be wildly irreverent only to lead the viewer into a hilarious storyline that connects, in this case into modern day geopolitical issues through the use of the 1980's Red Scare, Nuclear Proliferation and perceived evil of the middle east as told through the community of 80's metal-heads and their armchair calculations by way of their perceptions of life and politics. Slates' makes us laugh at the ridiculousness of 80's culture and politics only to drive home the mockery of the current world-view of many US citizens. His work to me is always humorous, but '89 Gator Mine' hits home, domestically and abroad on many of the pertinent issues @ our current moment in history.
