This common premise of a fake relationship to make the meddling grandmas back off has nothing special going for it. A little chemistry between the leads, mediocre dialogue and zero tension. The climax is, you guessed it, anticlimactic precipitated after no conflict .

An enjoyable romance

This sweet entertaining tale is better than most lightweight movie romances. The onscreen love match works particularly well because Brant Daugherty (as Jason Humphrey) is quirky, awkward and definitely funny in his pursuit of Hayley Sales (as Pen Campbell), a highly desirable budding author. Formerly a couple in their adolescent years they went their separate ways. One summer though, both coincidentally return to their hometown and meet up again. The charm of the story is compounded by their two mischievous well meaning but meddling grandmothers who match-make at every opportunity. The chemistry between Jason and Pen is believable as it would not be a stretch if they were a couple in real life. Jan and Pen decide to form a pact fooling their grandmas that they are dating to ease the pressure. The run time is perfect, the script is realistic, and the support cast lend credence to the story. It's enjoyable to watch.

I really enjoyed the reunion between the two childhood friends; I particularly appreciated their personality and the return, the journey to childhood, a memorable moment, happy or unhappy but always decisive, unforgettable. Both grandmothers are very nice and funny.
Totally predicable

Beautiful setting for sweet tale

This is a fairly typical romance, which combines a couple of tropes, which I'm not going to discuss because I'm not into spoilers.
Most of what is going on his below the surface, and I liked it, because there is no "other woman" or "other man", which is often introduced to create false conflict. Most of the conflict is internal of the characters. And while a no surprises approach to the plot is used, it's a very pretty film to look at. There are some beautiful scenes of the lake, on the pier. Often just for a few seconds, but quite stunning. The photography is actually very good in this film, and I think a lot of romantic comedies are not respected for their direction and photography, but they are often very well done and really add to the story. This is no exception.

DNF'd - OTT Meddling Grannies Ruin This

I've seen the matchmaking grandmas trope done well before but these two interfere so much and so obnoxiously, relentlessly steamrolling over the MC's wishes, that it's not even remotely charming, just annoying af. The FMC's pushy, self-righteous grandma behaves as if she and her noteworthy achievements of teacher and writer are worthless as long as she lacks the crowning achievements of bf or husband. Who cares if she's on an editor's tight deadline to make revisions to realize her lifelong dream of being signed by a top publisher. She's all stressed out but, nope, scary Granny
and her ridic matchmaking plots must come first or else... 🙄
That said, it's worth hanging in there for as long as you can bear it for the stunning scenery and cinematography alone. Seriously top marks for that, so maybe just mute it.

Linda Darlow saves this very bizarre romance in Hallmark style. Bizarre because no chemistry, no reasonable dialogue, not real final twist. Only two old ladies working to the dreamed couple. Hayley Sales and Brant Daugherty seem bored. The story of book is so familiar , simple and pure classic fairy tale than it sounds very wrong. A lot of details and nothing workink in reasonable way. Result , something. The effort of actors, the try of Daugherty shirless or footless , in summer clothes or with his not great drawings to save the film is childish. The flowers of the laptop of Sales are the chances to be discovered as good pointt, like the pie or expeted demonstration of thinking with the legs up . But... So, a film about plots of grandmothers. For some reasons, maybe it is enough. With huge indulgence.
Enjoyable to watch

I've been a Brant Daugherty fan since I saw him in Christmas Movie Christmas...love the clean light hearted movies. Keep them coming!
I can't seem to find the song info for the ending scene music/song - if anyone can point to it for me, would greatly appreciate it.

We'll definitely watch this one again. It was good clean fun. I especially like it because it's not woke, like most Hallmark movies for the past two years.
I don't understand the negative reviews. Are they Hallmark spies, intentionally driving down the ratings because they don't like the competition? Ignore them, give this movie a chance.

Absolutely loved this movie!!! Watching Jason and Pen spending time together, ultimately having great fun together, supporting each others passions, and discovering that they truly love one another makes this movie a beautiful romance. Also, the chemistry between these two actors was outstanding! All the characters (actors) were great and the humor added so much enjoyment to the story line. Hats off to the producers and everyone involved in making this wonderful movie. Please cast Brant Daugherty in many more movies He is so handsome and a really good actor.
Funnier than some - series potential
SunnyDaise4 July 2021
Fake dating plots aren't original but this is funnier than some. Whilst there needs to be a certain amount of awkwardness in this scenario, I think having more natural moments would have increased the rewatchability - I felt the pairing was less convincing at the end and lost a bit of momentum. However, I would like to see a sequel where they are more settled as a couple and helping each other with their creative projects, because that was the best scene. It's quite a big cast with a big age range, so there'd even be potential for a family TV series.
