An in-name only sequel- it’s been six years since the last S.W.A.T. movie, Firefight, and you Really don’t have to have seen the previous film – or the 2003 original – to appreciate this, the third film in the S.W.A.T. franchise. Yet another take on the Assault on Precinct 13 story model, S.W.A.T.: Under Siege sees a Swat compound come under fire from an international terrorist who relentlessly and violently pursues a mystery man who was apprehended by Seattle Swat after a raid went horribly wrong.
So why now? Why make another S.W.A.T. film now? Maybe it’s because CBS are planning a new TV iteration of the classic series,...

Hired to be a cat-sitter for an odd couple, the Farrows, college student Charlotte is given the run of a creepy house in the middle of the woods for a few days for an extravagant amount of money. The kind of money that students can’t turn down – of course there’s a reason that a meagre cat-sitting job comes with a huge pay packet… There’s a catch. There’s always a catch. A pretty big catch in this case given that this is a horror movie!
The clue is in the name of the couple who hired Charlotte. The Farrows. Hmmmm… Farrow. Where have I heard that name before? Could it be that this particular creepy couple are named after Mia Farrow? Star of Rosemary’s Baby,...

Our voyage through history's underappreciated films arrives at the year 2008 - another great year for lesser-seen gems...
For some, 2008 will be memorable as the year of The Dark Knight, with its astonishingly unhinged turn from the late Heath Ledger. Alternatively, it could be remembered as the year a legion Indiana Jones fans left cinemas glum-faced, having sat through Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.
Elsewhere, Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan sang and danced on a Greek island in Mamma Mia!, while Will Smith played an alcoholic superhero in Hancock. But as usual, 2008 offered plenty of watchable movies outside the top 10, which is where we swoop in - like Hancock after a bottle of gin.
So as usual, here's our selection of 25 underappreciated films from the year 2008 - starting with a British horror film starring Michael Fassbender...

Song placement plays a very important role in a film – a song can make you feel happy, sad, nostalgic or make you laugh. Scores can certainly do the same thing, but sometimes a well-placed song works better than any composed piece could. However this tact rarely applies to horror films, especially when leading up to a climatic moment or a jump scare. You can usually sense when these moments are coming – the score becomes ominous, (or even drops out completely) causing your heart beat to quicken as you sense something terrifying is about to be revealed. These moments are almost always driven by score and rarely (if ever) feature a lyric-filled song. And this choice makes sense since lyrics would probably distract from the suspense of the moment instead of drawing it out and, in turn, drawing you into the horror. For horror films, songs with vocals are usually left for party scenes or if a character...

Fancy a scare of the unfamiliar variety? Then check out some of the finest horror movies you've never seen...
There are a lot of terrible horror movies out there. Possibly more than any other genre, horror seems to appeal to wannabe filmmakers who figure it’s easy and cheap to pull off a scary movie – and thanks to the success of many low budget horror movies, distributors seem to be putting out an awful lot of them. So I’d understand if you didn’t want to trawl through an endless sea of crap to find the few real gems amongst the cinematic slurry.
But I’m an addict, and keep coming back for more punishment. The payoff is that sometimes, very occasionally, you discover something brilliant. Here are 25 great horror movies that you probably haven’t seen, possibly haven’t even heard of (some of them don’t even...

"It's the little things that getcha."
Pint sized terror comes alive to munch on the flesh of a cast of familiar faces, including Penn Jillette (Penn & Teller), Bill Moseley (Babysitter Wanted), Adam Savage (Mythbusters) and Martin Klebba (Feast II & III), in Night of the Little Dead. A terrifyingly funny horror comedy that offers a refreshing new take on zombies. Night of the Little Dead proves that sometimes good things come in small packages.
Helping to turn the zombie sub-genre on its head by reducing the size of everyone's favorite anti-hero is former Face Off contestant Frank Ippolito who co-directs alongside Ezekiel Zabrowski. Blood Night Blood Night takes elements of all those spooky old ghost stories, behind all those tall tales that you heard and all those outlandish urban legends and mixes into a narrative involving lots and lots and well.... lots of blood and gore, an appealing cast of young kids and a slasher story that helps to make Blood Night one darn entertaining flick. Frank Sabatella is the director behind it all in Blood Night. And the film features two horror film icons in the cast - Danielle Harris (Hatchet II) and Bill Moseley (Babysitter Wanted). Blood Night is an atmospheric, old school styled blend of ghost story and slasher. It's fun, lively and engertic; a film that you should check out. Here's what Frank Sabatella had to say about the making of Blood Night.
Frank Sabatella So who is Frank Sabatella and what are you all about?
I am a horror filmmaker from NY.

Blood Night Blood Night, which stars horror film icons Bill Moseley (Babysitter Wanted) and Danielle Harris (Hatchet II), has been picked up for distribution from Lionsgate. Blood Night is a lively, energetic, stylish horror film with atmospheric moments. It takes a ghost story and gives it a slasher film twist complete with some over the top gore effects.
Originally, the executive producers behind Blood Night went the self distribution route, but in an effort to reach a wider amount of horror fans, they decided on seeking distribution from the top horror film studio. Now Blood Night will be able to reach people other then those willing to shell out $20 for a DVD copy. Blood Night is due to be released from Lionsgate on June 14, 2011. Also, make sure to check out the trailer which can be seen at the bottom of this post.

Matt Dallas from the now defunct hit TV series Kyle Xy turns 28 today! The actor got his start in the indie slasher Camp Slaughter (aka Camp Daze) from director Alex Pucci in which a group of friends find themselves lost and stranded with a broken down car at a camp in the middle of nowhere. However, this is no ordinary camp. It is stuck in a time warp where everyone is forced to relive their death day after day after day. The film had an original premise, took risks, but a big reason this film worked was because of appealing performances from Anika C. McFall and Matt Dallas who were just absolutely engaging presences in this movie.
Shortly afterwards, Matt Dallas hit it big with Kyle Xy. The show was an instant hit in its first season and Matt Dallas shot to popularity. However, when the show returned for its...

2Mfos Unrated DVD ArtDirector/writer: Tim Sullivan.
2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams is a follow-up to director Tim Sullivan's previous film, 2001 Maniacs, which was released in 2005. This second film is being distributed by First Look Studios on DVD and the film stars Bill Moseley (Babysitter Wanted), Lin Shaye (Dark Moon Rising) and Chrisa Campbell (Day of the Dead). The film clocks in at a short eight-six minutes and the film is really a silly, send-up of characters and cliches from the South. More comedy than horror, 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams is a mostly fun film experience, with gratuitous nudity and gore the tools Sullivan uses to entertain.
In summary, 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams follows a group of Southern rebels and patriots who are looking for revenge after their countrymen have been killed, or mutilated in The Revolutionary War. So, this travelling group of hillbillies and rednecks tour the lower states in search of Northern victims,...

The 2008 indie horror flick Babysitter Wanted finally hits DVD this month after a rather long wait, and although much of the marketing and early word had me skeptical at best, I popped the flick in and ... hey, this isn't bad! Oh sure it's got some of the typical "first-timer indie" problems (a few scenes that run too long, for example), but despite a slightly slow start, Babysitter Wanted picks up quite well in Act II and delivers some broad and enjoyable shocks and surprises that you may not see coming. The story is a remarkably simple one (and one that's oddly similar to the superior House of the Devil for the first half of the film): it's about a sweet young college girl, away from home for the first...

There are lots of goodies hitting DVD and Blu-ray this week with the standouts being the long-awaited Tell Tale, post-apocalyptic father and son saga The Road, and pick of the week True Blood: The Complete Second Season.
But those are just the high profile releases. There's also the suspenseful, funny, gory Babysitter Wanted, UK thriller Dark Nature, atmospheric supernatural tale Finale, demonic The Landlord, and Someone's Knocking at the Door, which bills itself as a tribute to old fashioned horror films.
Bowing on Blu-ray are City of the Living Dead (available as a special edition DVD as well), 1981's Clash of the Titans, Class of Nuke 'Em High, It Waits, and The Shortcut. Rounding things out is a collector's tin of Machine Girl.
Add in a few more offerings we'll let you guys discover for yourselves, and May 25th offers a pretty damn good haul all in all!

MLive recently reported shooting for upcoming horror film Sucker is currently underway in Pontiac, Michigan. Produced by the Los Angeles-based company Big Screen Entertainment and directed by Michael Manasseri (Babysitter Wanted), the film will follow a man who becomes part mosquito after being exposed to years of radiation and a serum full of rare insect DNA. Babysitter Wanted was one of the best indie horror films to come out of 2009 and now the film will be available to a wider audience May 25th. The Blu-Ray artwork is left and the film will be released through the Big Screen Entertainment group on both DVD and Blu-Ray. The film is a taut, tense, thriller, which pits one innocent girl against a demonic force. An excerpt of a review posted here describes the film as "the pacing of the film, along with the twisting story will unsettle viewers" (Babysitter Wanted Review). Horror fans are encouraged to pick this one up.

The House of the Devil is a great name for a movie. It hearkens back to the days of grindhouse horror, when a film's title and its trailer told you basically everything you needed to know. Yet it's different from those movies, too, in that it prefers slow-building tension over frequent bloodletting and mayhem. You have to wait for "The House of the Devil" to deliver on its promises -- but when it does, holy crap. I know that isn't a very scholarly analysis, but seriously. Holy crap.
The film is set in the early 1980s, apparently, with appropriately synthesized rock on the soundtrack and lots of freeze-frames in the opening credits. Our perky young heroine, Samantha (Jocelin Donahue), is a college student who's sick of living in the dorms and is preparing to move into an apartment with her...
