One of Templar's best adventures

THE SCORPION is a pretty good episode of the show, certainly a lively one with plenty going on throughout. It starts off on strong form with Dudley Sutton at his most menacing, before following with a story that involves a witness to a crime taking refuge at Templar's place while he tries to catch the criminal organisation responsible. The titular motif is reminiscent of the creative murder methods seen in the krimi films of the era, a touch I particularly liked. The supporting cast includes Hammer veteran Phillip Latham and Ronald Leigh-Hunt, alongside strong female cast members and exciting action.

Taut, well written

A thoroughly excellent little drama. Fisticuffs were never better.....the bad guys from all walks of life.....a script and director that kept the episode humming right along.

And don't ever forget the dignified beauty that is Katherine Woodville!

The Scorpion

Warning: Spoilers
Who is The Scorpion? A shady figure that is acquiring a kid of reputation that The Saint has.

Only the Scorpion is making money out of blackmail. A regular income stream.

Petty crook Long Harry (Philip Latham) comes to see Simon Templar over some documents he was asked to steal. He knows he is being followed by a leather clad thug Eddy Black (Dudley Sutton.)

The latest victim is businessman Mark Deverest (Ronald Leigh-Hunt) who is a friend of Simon Templar. He denies any knowledge of theft of the documents to him and his lawyer Wilfred Garniman (Geoffrey Bayldon.)

However Deverest makes a rendezvous at the Bird's Nest Club to meet hostess Patsy Butler and make a payment. He wrote an incriminating letter over a share sale.

The Saint follows him after he gets a tip off from Karen Bates, Deverest's assistant.

However The Saint has been careless. His mistake leaves Long Harry dead.

I did groan when Simon dropped that flat cap. It was bound to end nastily for Long Harry. There could only be a few people who could be The Scorpion, so their identity was easy to guess.

It is still a good thrilling episode with a good guest cast.
