Gail Edwards Makes the Episode
kgraovac12 November 2023
Nancy bends the rules and books a bachelor party at the restaurant; Howard forbids his visiting estranged daughter from dating Sonny.

An average episode that actually has more emphasis on the B-story. Unfortunately, there is little heart in the scenes between Howard and his daughter Lori (who reminds me of Debra Winger). The show no longer has any "deep" scenes like they did in the first two seasons and Richard Stahl doesn't do paternal the way Bert Remsen did in Season 1.

Very little time is dedicated to the A-story but what's here is fun. A last-minute snag puts the bachelor party in jeopardy. Dot agrees to jump out of the cake because the $200 will pay for her car repairs.

Gail Edwards makes the whole episode when she pops out of the cake as Sonny plays "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". The look of panic on her face is priceless when he switches to "The Stripper" but when the guys applaud her bump-and-grind routine she starts to enjoy it. It reminded me of Cindy Williams doing the same thing in the LAVERNE & SHIRLEY episode "Playing the Roxy". Jan later tells Dot "You've got a great future at the Elks' Lodge".

The script mentions that Howard has been married twice. Lori is a daughter from his second marriage to a woman named Desiree.

The Ginger character is still not very well-defined but the writers are definitely giving her the "Cassie" lines.
