I like Diagnosis Murder and I wish it was rebooted by the powers- that-be. Netflix perhaps?
Anyway, this episode Love is Murder is reminiscent of Basic Instinct in a way, and you have a serial cop killer who for tragic and horrific reasons (thanks to the justice system letting her down all those years ago) has a huge grudge against Californian cops.
Diagnosis Murder is known for special stunt casting, for example one episode featured some of the M*A*S*H and MASH cast, some featured Star Trek cast members, and so on. Here fresh off the success of Basic Instinct (1993), it would have been a treat to have Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone and Jeanne Tripplehorn making cameos here, alongside Steve pondering the meaning of the ice pick beneath the bed of his girlfriend/suspected serial cop killer.
