This weekend’s Jabberwock gives the Syfy creature feature treatment to the insect-headed dragon of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Syfy has posted two clips from the medieval monster movie from I Spit on Your Grave remake director Steven R. Monroe.
Jabberwock stars Michael Worth (“Acapulco H.E.A.T.”, Sasquatch Mountain), Tahmoh Penikett (“Battlestar Galactica”, Trick ‘r Treat), and Kacey Barnfield (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Lake Placid 3). Rafael Jordan (Frost Giant, Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon) and Raul Inglis (Sand Serpents, Goblin) handled the scripting duties.
Here’s a rather spoiler-y synopsis for Jabberwock courtesy of the film’s distributors at American World Pictures that was clearly written by someone who confused the concept of synopsis with treatment. Whoever wrote it also doesn’t have much need for silly things like paragraphs. Believe me, when I start giving grammar lessons, you've got problems.

I didn't have high hopes for this movie. Any movie that has the name of the monster (Sasquatch) and location (Mountain) in the title usually conveys all you need to know about the film. But Sasquatch Mountain defies the usual genre conventions by having little to do with Sasquatch. What Sasquatch Mountain is really about is fatherhood. It begins with home video-style footage of Harlan Knowles (Lance Henriksen) arriving on a deserted highway to fix his stranded wife's car. She captures a Sasquatch on tape, only to be subsequently killed in a car accident. Flash forward...

This writer caught up with director Steven R. Monroe last week, and while the bulk of that juicy interview is just around the corner, we’d be remiss in not immediately bringing you word on Anchor Bay’s release plans for the director’s 2010 CineTel/Anchor Bay Entertainment remake of the infamous 1978 exploitation classic I Spit On Your Grave – a remake which is at this moment slated for an unrated(!) theatrical release.
“We’re done with the MPAA,” says Monroe of the film, which stars actress Sarah Butler as a woman who seeks revenge on a quartet of men following their sexual brutalization of her.
As for Monroe’s battle with the American ratings board, the filmmaker (who’s previously shepherded the horror flicks It Waits and Sasquatch Mountain, among others) says of the I Spit On Your Grave redux, “After seven rounds with the MPAA, the last two rounds...

The Mongolian Death Worm is a creature of cryptozoology purported as being a bright red worm up to five feet long capable of spewing sulphuric acid and emitting a paralyzing electric discharge. One look at the sneak preview Syfy has posted for its new Mongolian Death Worm movie indicates the filmmakers just watched the bug ravine scene from Peter Jackson's King Kong remake and made a movie about those giant head-devouring worms instead.
When an American oil company sets up an experimental drilling plant out in the vast deserts of Mongolia, they awaken a nest. The deadly creatures begin to breed and spread, devouring everyone in their path. The only person who can stop them is a treasure hunter and adventure seeker who spent his life searching for a legendary tomb, fabled to be protected by the Death Worms. He knows he must do what he can to kill the creatures,...

That’s right, your favourite female revenge movie is getting the Hollywood treatment. Of course it’s being remade, the film has achieved a certain notoriety as a result of it’s shocking nature, it would be foolish to not to resurrect it and rape it (sorry) for financial gain. We all understand that Hollywood is going to remake every film that may pull an audience until there are none left, and I think it’s time to accept it and roll with the banal punches. So, ‘I Spit On Your Grave’ is the next one on the chopping block. For those not familiar with the plot, a woman is abducted, raped, brutalized and left for dead. She isn’t dead, though, and she spends the rest of the film exacting twisted revenge on her abusers. Anchor Bay’s remake is being shot in Shreveport, La, with Steven Monroe directing...
