lies

Wow, I go to Montour High School and all that ESPN did for us was get in the way. seriously, they were all over the school making the popular kids more annoying and disrupting classes. I knew from the second we found out last year that ESPN was coming that it wouldn't do any good. instead of our school being just a local joke, its now a national joke. i don't know why they thought they could help but all it did was make the situation worse. and it was all lies and publicity anyway. Dick Butkiss wasn't the head coach and he left before the season ended cause we only won one game that we had to travel 2 hours away to find someone we could actually beat. Oh and did the money we receive go to bettering our decrepit facilities? nope. not at all. i'd like to know where that money really did go.

All lies

Butkus wasn't the head coach - Lou Cerro was. Butkus was just a meaningless figurehead who came in for a paycheck, and left before the season was over when ESPN scrapped production due to low ratings and the miserable season Montour was having.

What's the lesson learned? Reality is not what is on TV. The reality of the situation was Montour took the money and ran, ESPN brought in meaningless figurehead who bailed on the team, and the team still stunk horribly. The kids liked to be on TV, this I'm sure of - but do you really want to be on TV listening to some old-school jackass with no real authority, getting your butt handed to you week in and week out by relative nobodies in the Pittsburgh high school scene?

Sorry kids, your school board sold you out to buy some new desks for the science labs. I hope you enjoy them.

Bound For Less Than Mediocrity

I am a proud graduate of Montour High School, and a Spartan for life. I was so excited when I heard that this show was being made. I live in South Carolina now and am far away from home, have been for several years. It was so cool seeing home on national TV. The show was well made and shed a good light on the community. I think that an outsider would've also enjoyed the show but for different reasons. Some problems with the show were the fact that these kids didn't play as hard as they should've. If I was on ESPN, I'd work my ass off to make the plays, and wouldn't make excuses every game. Coach Dick Butkus wasn't very supportive, not nearly as much as Ray Crockett, who he brought in to help out. All in all I really enjoyed the show despite the bitter losses. And am still proud to call myself a Spartan.
