Multi-faceted digital star Todrick Hall is celebrating the release this week of his debut documentary, Behind The Curtain -- an AwesomenessTV-produced project chronicling the 32-year-old's ascension to fame as well as a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of his Straight Outta Oz visual album (which was also the name of a subsequent tour).
Hall will be attending the premiere of Behind The Curtain tonight in his home state of Texas, though the film -- which was directed by Katherine Fairfax Wright (Call Me Kuchu) -- officially bowed yesterday on digital platforms, including iTunes and Amazon. "The amount of opportunities that I was right to audition for were so small, being an openly gay African-American man in the industry,” Hall told Billboard of conceiving Straight Outta Oz. “I just felt that I needed to get these things out in a way that didn’t make me seem like a victim or an angry black man.

Todrick Hall wrote and recorded an entire album, Straight Outta Oz, and prepped a nationwide tour in mere weeks -- all of which is documented in Behind the Curtain: Todrick Hall. And in this clip, debuting on Et, he reacts to his record hitting No. 2 on the charts. "Further up the charts than we ever could have imagined," he tells Et.
The artist at No. 1? Beyoncé. "To say Beyoncé has inspired and influenced me is an understatement, so to be second on the charts only to my idol was one thing," Hall says, calling it "one of the most incredible moments of my life." "But to see the love and support of my fans was just a dream come true."

That’s Big Brother host Julie Chen’s reaction to Cody Nickson casting the deciding vote on Wednesday night’s season 19 finale, which saw Josh Martinez beat out front runner Paul Abrahamian for the $500,000 prize.
“They were like oil and water,” Julie says of Cody and Paul. “But the sad thing is, Paul wanted to work with Cody … but Cody has pride. This guy, I think, sees the world in black and white and he was like, no. I called it. I'm sticking to my original opinion, and I felt like it was a very personal and emotional jury that voted for Josh to win, to be honest. But, you know, Josh did work. It's not like he sat there -- he was not a floater. We didn't actually hear that term this summer. Though, some people did float.”

"I sometimes think, Do people find this interesting?" Todrick Hall shrugs. "Because this is my life every day and, you know, people could do this if they wanted to."
We are standing just backstage at the historic Theatre at Ace Hotel immediately following the Outfest screening of Behind the Curtain: Todrick Hall, a documentary that followed Todrick as he wrote and recorded a full-length visual album, Straight Outta Oz, then turned that album into a stage show and toured nationwide to perform it. From our vantage point behind the velvet curtain, we can watch the attendees -- hundreds of fans, friends and other industry folk -- filing out under the glimmering mirrored ceiling into the Broadway Theater District of Downtown L.A. I've asked Todrick if this all feels as glamorous to him as it seems.

One of the most surprising games of E3 2016, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, will not be on stage this year when Sony presents their wares. Read Kojima's tweet below and see if you can decipher it. Plus, find out when you can see the man, himself, live and in person at E3!
When we began on the long, winding road to E3 2017, one of the games we were most excited to get an update on was Hideo Kojima's first game since Konami, Death Stranding. Alas, we aren't so lucky this year as Kojima has tweeted out that his team has decided to forego E3 2017 in favor of spending that time developing. That didn't mean Kojima, himself, wouldn't still be in attendance, though.
Apologies to our fans, Death Stranding will not be @ E3 as we are fully focused on development. Pls see me with @geoffkeighley on 6/14! pic.twitter.com/w...

Was that the beginning of a beautiful friendship?
At the very least, getting stuck in a submarine with a vicious Russian made Ethan and Campbell on Code Black Season 2 Episode 7 has the two tolerating each other a little better. The two alpha males weren't the only ones to gain a better understanding of their coworkers though.
Heather's instant connection with prison guard Jackie humanized her while simultaneously throwing some obstacles into her path to be a world class surgeon. She didn't get Mama's compassionate understanding – a dressing down from Daddy was the only thing that could get through to her.
Sure, sending Willis and Campbell out to a Russian submarine was a little crazy, and the whole Putin's nephew and captain shooting his crewman in the head was preposterous, but I can't say I hated it. Watching them rappel down to the sub was pretty cool.
It just seems like...

1. “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” (available November 25)
Why Should I Watch It? Capping America’s year of nostalgia, Netflix is finally releasing the much-anticipated “Gilmore Girls” revival. Told in four 90-minutes segments, the new episodes will reunite the stars and creator of the early aughts favorite, similar to recent continuations on Netflix and elsewhere. Needles to say, anyone who visited Stars Hollow before is quite eager to see where on the ‘member berries spectrum “A Year in the Life” will fall: the high of “Stranger Things” or the low of “Fuller House”?
Best Episode: From what we’ve seen of the new footage, things are looking good for Amy Sherman-Palladino’s fresh stories. That being said, we haven’t snagged a screener of any episodes, so we’re on pins and needles with the rest of you.

Former wrestler-turned-superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is circling back to his formative years in the ring for his latest project. Variety has learned that Johnson has agreed terms to develop a comedy series based on his early wrestling career, and his relationship with former WWE head writer, Brian Gewirtz.
The outlet goes on to reveal that Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions will foster the TV project, partnering with Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez banner. Meanwhile, Andrew Gurland (Married) has been tapped to pen the pilot.
Pitched as a “behind-the-scenes look at a fictional professional wrestling outfit,” the as-yet-untitled series chronicles the working partnership between both Johnson and Gewirtz, who were described as having a “one-of-a-kind odd couple relationship” during the early days of WWE.
No word yet on when the single-cam, hour-long dramedy will fire up production, but you can check in on Johnson’s official Instagram message, below.

Our long, international nightmare is over this week, as six new episodes of “Black Mirror” are set to premiere on Netflix. Being a professional wrestler in WWE is tough. One day you’re at the top of the company and on top of the world, and the next, you’re yesterday’s news. With ratings dropping precipitously lower, it’s not just mid-card stars who are clamoring for some TV time but bigger names as well. WWE writers are struggling to get tired, jaded fans interested in a color-by-numbers product. However, bringing in big part-time names like Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker isn’t exactly putting butts in seats, to borrow a term from the Monday Night Wars.
We all remember that one wrestler or two who got a big push, had some fire behind them (or some heel heat), and then just vanished without a trace. After all, what ever happened to Jack Swagger or R-Truth? At one point, they seemed to have blossoming careers and had a...

The definition of ‘having heat’ in the world of pro wrestling can differ greatly. In front of the audience, having heat is actually an extremely positive thing, provided a wrestler is portraying a heel. Being able to extract a negative response from people is actively encouraged. If a performer is getting any reaction from the core fan base, it is generally considered better than getting no reaction at all.
Behind the curtain however, having heat can mean something else entirely for a wrestler’s career. If said grappler has heat with his/her peers, things can become very difficult for them going forward. In this week’s article, perceived heat plays a major role in some of the facts being presented.
For example, which WWE Hall Of Famer received tremendous backlash for refusing to turn heel? In addition, which young WWE star had heat as soon as he walked in the door?...

How would you program this year's newest, most interesting films into double features with movies of the past you saw in 2014?
Looking back over the year at what films moved and impressed us, it is clear that watching old films is a crucial part of making new films meaningful. Thus, the annual tradition of our end of year poll, which calls upon our writers to pick both a new and an old film: they were challenged to choose a new film they saw in 2014—in theatres or at a festival—and creatively pair it with an old film they also saw in 2014 to create a unique double feature.
All the contributors were given the option to write some text explaining their 2014 fantasy double feature. What's more, each writer was given the option to list more pairings, with or without explanation, as further imaginative film programming we'd be lucky to catch...

It’s very easy to look at a personality like the Iron Sheik and make some flash judgments about him. Like many wrestlers from the seventies and eighties, he wasn’t just a character to the audience. The Iron Sheik was everything he claimed to be. Going head to head with Hulk Hogan, the Iron Sheik helped […]

A single from Lady Gaga's upcoming album, "Artpop," has leaked and some are already calling it controversial. Does the single, called either "Burqa" or "Aura," sexualize Muslim women? Is it any good?
Because the song, whatever it's called, talks about veiled women in a sexual fashion, controversy has already been stirred. Lady Gaga's overall knowledge of the sociology connected to the Muslim custom of wearing a hijab is not known, but she has appeared in a "sexy" burqa outfit of her own.
That might be the basis of this song. It's hard to say.
You can listen to the new single here.
As for the song itself, regardless of lyrical meaning, it seems to have a techno feel mixed in with Gaga's more typical pop sound. A pleasant chorus contrasts to the violent and harshly presented lyrics that surround it. On musicality alone, this might end up being a divisive track.

You've heard of "momagers," but how about "momsters"?
Former "Toddler & Tiaras" star Eden Wood's mother Mickie Wood is being called just that and more by her daughter's former manager, who has written a "tell all" book that contains some disturbing allegations.
Heather Ryan alleges in her self-published e-book, "Unleashing A Momster: A Look Behind The Curtain At The Tragic Life of America's Most Successful Child Pageant Star," that Eden endured verbal abuse and physical neglect at the hands of her mother.
Mickie Wood told The Huffington Post in a statement, "These allegations are untrue and I am very sad and disappointed that Eden's former manager would be publishing such false and defamatory material."
According to Star magazine (May 6, print issue), Ryan writes that Mickie turned out to be "lying, jealous, demanding and evil to the core." She goes on to claim that her former employer put pageant competitions above Eden's health,...

The Wizard of Oz isn’t just a classic; it’s an untouchable classic. There’s no other movie since its release (a not inconsiderable 74 years ago) that has retained the ability to appeal people of all ages, from any generation, all the way through to the present day.
A remake is frankly inconceivable, so instead we’ve had an animated sequel, a Michael Jackson-starring musical spin-off, and the unofficial (and frankly awful) Disney sequel Return to Oz. It now looks like it’s a case of when rather than if we’ll see a film adaptation of the Broadway hit Wicked, but until then at least Sam Raimi will have comfortably pulled off the best big screen Oz adventure since MGM’s Technicolor delight back in 1939.
That may not be saying a lot, but it’s certainly not a backhanded compliment. Raimi’s film opens up back in...

When it comes to protecting people he cares about, Reese (James Caviezel) is a force of nature. The trail to finding Mr. Finch (Michael Emerson) has led to south Texas, and in case you were wondering, yes. The Machine’s far-reaching vision extends all over the Us, it seems. Creeped out, yet? But even though the Machine seems to “know” where it’s master is, it still have a job for Reese to do, and that is helping others. Even if the help comes too late. Root (Amy Acker) almost comes off sympathetic in this episode. She has a mission to set the Machine free from those who would use it for evil, and she’s actually making some sense when she tries to convince Finch. Well, except for stringing her new prisoner, Denton Weeks (Cotter Smith) up in an “enhances interrogation technique”… which disgusts her audience a bit. Reese,...

Episode 312: “Coalition”
He scraped, he scrapped and he limped on for nearly two full seasons but Dickie Bennett (Jeremy Davies) finally reached the end of his run caught red handed while trying to steal the money left behind by his mother, Mags Bennett. Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) finally put a bullet into him, though it’s not clear if it was enough to kill him.
Raylan: You keep thinking you’re tough and you keep going to jail to remind you your not.
Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) will not be satisfied knowing that Dickie is back in jail or is dead at Raylan’s gun instead of his hands; he wants to finish what he started at Johnny’s bar. As Dickie laid on the ground shot, the camera panned upward to Limehouse (Mykelti Williamson), proudly sitting before him, giving Raylan the tip he needed to save Loretta (Kaitlyn Devers...

Angelina Jolie and Tom Cruise dismiss a lawsuit and a rumour as 'par for the course' and 'ludicrous'
The big story
Celebrity gesture of the week? The shrug.
Angelina Jolie sported one as a lawsuit claiming her directorial debut was nicked from a Croatian journalist was filed, then Tom Cruise (aka Tom Cruise's People) took up the trend in response to rumours that crowds who greeted the Mission Impossible star's arrival in Mumbai were hired actors.
It became both rather well. "It's par for the course," said Jolie of Josip Knežević's claim that she had taken her story from his book, The Soul Shattering. "It happens on almost every film. There are many books and documentaries that I did pull from, but that particular book I've never seen." The latest film from Francis Ford Coppola, who used to make movies the people liked to watch.
Rumor has it this film will be “edited” live as the audience reacts to the film during its 30 city tour, with the Man Behind the Curtain shortening and extending scenes on the fly depending on whether or not folks like it. While this concept is fascinating, I hope it’s not the same person who edited this tedious trailer.
Twixt stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Elle Fanning, David Paymer and Ben Chaplin. It cost $7 million, was filmed largely on Coppola’s estate in Napa County, and will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Working at Hooters is probably not too good for your sense of self-worth and human dignity. So I can only imagine that working at a Hooters knockoff called Canz is... worse. We'll soon find out, when VH1 begins airing Canz, a new reality show that takes a look behind the curtain at the Long Island sports bar. (Behind the curtain at Canz is where the magic happens, one assumes.) TMZ, breaking this story, doesn't identify any major plotlines for the series, but Gothamist recently reported that Canz was locked in a running battle with... yes, a nearby Hooters. The lesser-known eatery apparently lured some twenty-five bosomy employees away from Hooters; one ex-Hooters waitress told the New York Post that Hooters made her and her coworkers "feel uncomfortable with [their] bodies." (Staggeringly, Canz seems to have been a step up in that regard.) Retaliating, Hooters waitresses [...]...

Entering the crowded arena of horror movies swoops Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, with grace and style enough to show up the borrowed nostalgia scares and toothless gorefrenzies of modern horror films for what they are, and in doing so giving me one of my favourite films of last year.
The merits of Darren Aronofsky’s latest were well argued in Ian’s review of the film back in January, and it was a clear favourite when it played the festival circuit last year. Now that the film arrives on Blu-ray and DVD we can revisit it to see if the dark tale of perfection and perception holds up to a second viewing. Short answer: It does. Here’s why.
I cannot deny there was a tangible thrill when I opened the envelope containing the Black Swan Blu-ray; the film’s release in Japan has just pushed its earning past...

Here is one of those brilliant, but exceedingly rare, moments where I get to feel like my work is really already done. With a number of awards already received, and my pick as best movie of the year, what more is there for me to say about Black Swan? My original review is reprinted below, in case you are curious about what I've already said, but for the most part, the work is done at this point.
With Natalie Portman's Oscar win, and the public stirring over the "weirdness" of the film, it's hard to imagine that a serviceable examination of at least most aspects of the film have eluded anyone.
On the other hand, the DVD release, and several treats that go along with it, are still open for some discussion.
First off, I want to send you to check out some cool things related to the film.

Chicago – Darren Aronofsky’s Oscar-winning “Black Swan” was one of the most ambitious films of 2010, a piece of psychological drama that, despite an incredibly stupid recent backlash of the kind that always comes eventually with a project this highly-acclaimed, will absolutely stand the test of time. It doesn’t just reward repeat viewing as much as anything from 2010, it practically demands it. You can’t fully appreciate any of the accomplishments if you see them only once.
And I mean Any of them. I’ve seen “Black Swan” multiple times, more than any film from 2010, and I’m flabbergasted at how well it holds up. There’s always something new to admire, like a symphony performance in which you hear a different instrument every time. Of course, Natalie Portman’s spectacular work stands out the first time, as it should. Portman gives a physically and emotionally draining turn that earned her a well-deserved Oscar.

This Week in DVD & Blu-ray is a column that compiles all the latest info regarding new DVD and Blu-ray releases, sales, and exclusive deals from stores including Target, Best Buy and Fry’s. Black Swan Darren Aronofsky doesn't want you to experience joy or happiness. He wants to devastate you. He wants to punish you as he does his characters, fully immersing you in every dreary facet of their world as it collapses around them. And he is really, really good at it. Aronofsky has always shown a fascination with the degeneration of the body and mind, finding its limits when tested against paranoia, addiction, disease and giant planks of wood covered in nails and barbed wire. It's amusing then, that his most horrifying exercise in body horror would be a wildly operatic melodrama about ballet. In Black Swan, you are not treated as an observer to Natalie Portman's...
