Refreshingly different from other German movies!

I just saw this movie yesterday night. Starting at 2:30 am I was very tired but decided to watch the movie anyway. Some juvenile minor offenders (no rapists, murderers) had the opportunity to join an experimental bootcamp (we don't have these in Germany) for 120 days or they could decide to stay in prison for their 2 yeare sentences.

Without giving away too much of the story, contrary to my expectation the representation of the bootcamp drill instructors was quite good. I was wondering how the arrival of the prisoners will be depicted so it will give the athmosphere of an US bootcamp - they did that pretty well. Yelling, humiliation and big bad watchdogs barking.

In my opinion most newer German movies lack a sort of serious realistic acting, you can see in most movies that the actors have a classical theater background - speaking sentences unnaturally clear, overpowered gestures - as you expect in a classical theatre piece.

However, with exception of the rather inconsistent acting of the secretary of state and the not so dedicated acting of Alex' father, the overall impression was good. Matthias Koeberlin, Aaron Hildebrand and to a degree Erhan Emre did an outstanding performance.

7/10.
