"Zuckerbrot" has David Bowie (off-screen), Marie Zielcke (on-screen) and post-cold war Berlin (all around). What else do you need? True, it's all a little pretentious, from the fake eighties feel of picturesquely run-down sets to Ricki's clumsy passport scam, from Jenny's lesbian prison love affair to her coy romance with Eastern European idiot-savant Mitja (Ivan Shvedoff). But who cares? It's all worth it for a truly climactic scene that has Jenny showing off in a revealing ruffled two-piece outfit aptly named "Hawaiian Sunrise". Sure works for me. Guest appearance by Henry Hübchen as a small-time schemer overplaying his hand. Stay for the surprise ending.
