One joke film that has some nice touches to make it rise slightly above the material
bob the moo26 October 2002
A man driving his car suddenly finds himself desperately in need of a real good dump. He races the 20 miles to the nearest garage but finds himself with several obstacles to be overcome before he can truly be relieved.

This was part of a series made by advertising company Tomato with FilmFour. The series included Headphone Girl and The Initiation of Samuel Caine. The aim was to make several films of the same length whose only connection would be a sharp visual style. In other words the films were all to be completely different in substance.

S**t Happens is the comedy of the bunch. It takes the traveller's plight to the extreme and manages to be punchy and amusing. Although the material isn't inspired and the actual set up feels more like a Russ Abbott sketch than a short it does have plenty of nice touches.

The direction puts in several slowmo `John Woo' type moments in inappropriate places making it feel slick but also funny. It works well and gives the impression that the film is better than it's comedy set-up. However outside of this moments it does manage to tick along well, even if its uninspired a little.

Overall this is worth a watch as it is clever despite being simple and is funny despite being an one joke film (and a done-before joke at that).
