Corpse F*cking Art (1987)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

If you're a fan of director Jorg Buttgereit then you'll certainly enjoy this hour long documentary that takes you behind the scenes of his first three feature films: NEKROMANTIK, DER TODESKING and NEKROMANTIK 2.

This is a really enjoyable film on a number of levels but the greatest thing is that there's so much behind the scenes footage of the make-up effects. If you're familiar with the three movies then you know that they're very much low-budget so it was great getting to see how several of the effects were done. This includes the two NEKROMANTIK films and seeing how the corpses were made and the various struggles that certain people had to go through in order to get a proper mold.

I guess it goes without saying but if you're not a fan of the director's work then this here probably won't appeal to you. The director is also on hand for several comments about the three films as is Monika M who appeared in NEKROMANTIK 2 and later SCHRAMM.

Great documentary for every Jörg Buttgereit fan

This film is a kind of "making of" about three Jörg Buttgereit's great movies: both parts of "NEKRomantik" and "Todesking". We can see how effects in those were made. If you're a fan of controversial German filmmaker, then this documentary will give you many pleasure. For example we can see how was made the infamous final decapitation scene from "Return of the loving dead". There are many pictures shot during the work of the crew: actors, director, people specialized in make-up and all this gory stuff. I loved "NEKRomantik 1&2" and this film made me realize how difficult was it to complete those masterpieces of underground cinema. This "behind the scenes" flick is quite hard to find, so if you think that Buttgereit is a sick man with a depraved imagination, then you can automatically abandon your irresponsible thoughts about "Corpse F**king Art". But for everyone else it's worth looking for.
