Angelina Jolie created a huge stir at the 2000 Academy Awards. She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Girl, Interrupted. But her big win was brutally ignored as people instead spoke about her infamous kiss with brother James Haven. Scroll below for details as she once clapped back at TV host Jay Leno for the inappropriate incest jokes.
It was quite a sweet yet special moment for Angie when she won the Oscar award. She thanked her brother in her acceptance speech. The siblings posed for the cameras at the Vanity after-party, but they left jaws dropped as they shared a kiss on the lips. The moment was exaggerated; many even claimed it was a “French kiss.”

Jon Gregory, editor of such films as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and In Bruges has died, a representative confirmed to Deadline. He was 77.
Gregory worked with Mike Leigh across the director’s storied career, from an early short called The Short & Curlies to one of Leigh’s first features, High Hopes, to some of the director’s best-known work — such as Life Is Sweet, Naked and Secrets & Lies — to one of his most recent works, Peterloo. Leigh remembered his frequent collaborator in a piece posted by The Guardian today.
In it, Leigh praised Gregory’s ability to compose complex component parts into a cohesive whole. “He brought to the task his unique characteristic skill, imagination, sensitivity and sophistication, while, as always, staying true to the material,” wrote the director. He praised Gregory’s sense of when not to edit, as well.

Mike Newell is a director I bring up far more than one might imagine given how widely underappreciated he seems to be. Though he may always be best known for his films that – made a dent in the overall cultural awareness (Four Weddings and a Funeral), managed a certain cult following (Into the West), involve young wizards (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), or capitalize on their cast (Donnie Brasco), much of his best work remains virtually unseen. Whether it’s The Good Father, Enchanted April,, or An Awfully Big Adventure, to name only a few, much of his best work is all but unknown outside the circles of the most devout cinephiles. Even some of the more recognizable efforts that are perhaps avoided with good reason – Pushing Tin, Mona Lisa Smile, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time – are difficult to fault in terms of their direction, and...

Imagine, for a moment, a world in which Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie were still together—because the actor, 62, just reflected on his marriage to the Maleficent II actress, 43, as part of an interview for the HFPA in Conversation podcast. "I look at that time as a great time," he said. "Angie is still a friend of mine and she's a great person and she's done so much." In spite of their 20-year age difference, Thornton and Jolie fell in love on the set of the 1999 dramedy Pushing Tin; Jolie became his fifth wife, after Melissa Lee Gatlin (1978-1980), Toni Lawrence (1986-1988), Cynda Williams (1990-1992) and Pietra Dawn Cherniak (1993-1997). “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver excels at drawing unexpected comparisons between people, places and things — often in the middle of one of his long-form rants — and last night’s episode of the HBO news talk series featured pretty stellar jab at Woody Allen couched in a series of jabs at Donald Trump.
Oliver was ostensibly reporting on another wild week in Trump’s campaign — one marked by a series of walkbacks, walkback walkbacks and maybe even an actual walkback walkback walkback — when he snuck in a dig at Allen and his latest film, “Cafe Society.”

Since “Doctor Strange” revealed its first trailer, fans were outraged over the casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One. The film was quickly accused of whitewashing after the Marvel comics character, who is traditionally depicted as Asian, was now a white woman. It also didn’t help that that same month the first picture of Scarlett Johansson as the Japanese manga character in “Ghost in the Shell” was also released.
While Swinton is a fantastic actress, it begged the question: were there no Asian actors or actress who could have done the part justice?

Ever since the gay television swell of the early to mid-aughts, viewers have been looking to the fill void left by “The L Word,” “Will & Grace” and “Queer as Folk.” Sadly, “Looking” leaves them still looking. Andrew Haigh’s HBO series (which only lasted two seasons) deliberately eschewed the fabulousness of those beloved shows, instead aiming for the unstructured writing and hipster ennui of “Girls.” In his eagerness to distinguish the series from its natural predecessors, Haigh strayed too far from his own voice, so clearly defined in his acclaimed feature films “Weekend” and “45 Years.”
HBO may have been betting that Haigh could conjure some of the magic of those films for his feature-length take on “Looking.” Unfortunately, the film only plays like an epilogue to the series, resurrecting its hunky characters just so viewers can ogle them a bit longer. It’s the lesbian couple trying to make it work one last time,...

“Hillary’s America,” the third documentary from author, filmmaker and convicted felon Dinesh D’Souza, begins with an undeniably fascinating premise: What if a Twitter egg made a movie? While D’Souza’s previous feature-length attacks on the Democratic Party were similarly falsified and foaming at the mouth (remember the part in 2014’s “America” when he argued that Hillary Clinton wants to use Nasa to turn the United States into her own personal panopticon of terror?), “Hillary’s America” is different — this time, it’s personal.
In January of 2014, D’Souza was indicted for violating campaign finance laws after it was discovered that he made illegal contributions to Wendy Long’s Senate bid (she wound up losing by more than 40 percentage points). He was found guilty, and accused the court of selective persecution on the basis that the Obama administration was supposedly trying to silence its dissidents.

There aren’t many power couples in Hollywood anymore, but Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are certainly one of them. They haven’t worked on the same project together since Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but tomorrow they co-star in By the Sea, which Jolie also wrote and directed. I wrote briefly about this one last week, and honestly the film itself isn’t anything special, but it is an excuse to talk about some of their work, so in that regard, I’m glad it’s coming out. Both have Academy Awards to their credit and both are among the biggest A-listers we have, so there should be plenty to discuss… In case you’re not aware what By the Sea is, here’s a short refresher. The film is a 1970’s set look at a married couple unraveling/trying to save their union while vacationing in a small seaside town after an untold tragedy.

I sat down with Oscar-winning screenwriter, actor, director and musician Billy Bob Thornton for Venice Magazine in October of 2001. He had a slate of very diverse projects he was promoting: his first solo music album, "Private Radio," as well as the films "Monster's Ball," "Bandits," and "The Man Who Wasn't There." My strongest memory is of Thornton's quiet intensity and an undercurrent of Southern affability, which came out once he decided you were okay. He seemed to feel that way about me after I shared with him my idolatry of legendary filmmaker Fred Zinnemann, something we shared. I also remember his unusual diet, when our lunch was served. Thornton got the biggest plate of sliced papaya I've seen to date, artfully presented. I got a seafood salad. He looked at my plate, smiled, and told me about the horrible shellfish allergy he'd been saddled with all his life, and how...

Billy Bob Thornton gets candid on his three-year marriage to Angelina Jolie.
Though we bet plenty of men would do just about anything for a chance with Dame Angelina Jolie, apparently, her ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton doesn't look back at their time together too fondly.
Thornton, 59, and Jolie, 39, met on the set of 1999's Pushing Tin and married in 2000 after a whirlwind two-month courtship. Things only got weirder from there until they divorced in 2003.
"I mean, it was a crazy time," Thornton told The Hollywood Reporter at a Loyola Marymount University School of Film & Television event on Oct. 15. "I've never been fond of it."

It's hard to believe Angelina Jolie has been a fixture of Hollywood for almost 20 years now.
Ever since breaking out in the late '90s with a string of critically-acclaimed performances, the actress quickly established herself as an international star. Between headlining hits like "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and directing passion projects like "In the Land of Blood and Honey," Jolie is perhaps the biggest Hollywood spokesperson of humanitarian efforts worldwide. This summer, however, Jolie can be seen taking a wicked turn in Disney's "Maleficent" -- a re-imagining of "Sleeping Beauty" from the villain's point-of-view.
From her Oscar-winning godfather to her curiosity with blood, here are 33 things you probably don't know about Angelina Jolie.
1. Jolie was born June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles to Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, both actors.
2. The actress was born Angelina Jolie Voight, but she legally dropped her surname "Voight" in 2002.
3. She is the goddaughter of actress Jacqueline Bisset and actor Maximilian Schell.

In the winter, when the nights are short and all is darkness, I find there’s nothing better to banish those winter blues than cuddling up on the sofa in front of a cheery, gore-saturated shark film, full of toned Californian teens in swimwear being eaten hilariously alive. Conversely, in the summertime, when the pavements are all wobbly with heat-haze and the act of turning on the oven to cook dinner is enough to make your pet cat start to sigh demonstratively and open more windows, one needs a swift and chilly restorative to remind you that there is still somewhere in the world where it’s cold enough for the human brain to function.
That, at least, is the presumed rationale behind the decision to screen Fargo, the long-awaited small-screen successor to the impeccable neo-noir thriller of the same name, at this time of year. This is not a decision,...

Remember ten years ago when you would be in HMV looking at a DVD box set of something like The West Wing and then unfolding the twenty pound note in your pocket and wondering whether to part with all that cash for something you had never seen? You had just heard that someone somewhere liked it, but for that £30 you could get two films like Bad Boys 2 and Kill Bill volume 1!
These were difficult times my friends, and more often than not £30 would go down the drain and you would watch three episodes of whatever series it was and decide it wasn’t for you. Well thanks to modern technology and its mission to kill DVD, Blu-Ray and whatever other physical media dinosaur you prefer, this dilemma is a thing of the past.
Nowadays you can go onto Lovefilm, Netflix, BT Vision or whatever else and stream whole seasons of TV for almost nothing.

If the Maleficent star is to bow out in style she'll need to steer a course between the vapid action fluff and middlebrow issue movies she's favoured lately
Angelina Jolie has always tried to use her celebrity to draw attention to humanitarian causes. So, following her recent Channel 4 News interview alongside William Hague to discuss warzone sexual assaults in her capacity as a Un special envoy, all the headlines were naturally about when she's going to stop being in films.
And the answer is apparently quite soon. Upsettingly for fans of her work, and for fans of errant red carpet leg-juts, Jolie already has the finishing line in her sights.
"I think I'm going to have to give up acting as the kids hit the teenage years because there is going to be too much to manage at home," she said. Given that her oldest son Maddox is now...

Billy Bob Thornton was left feeling like the Phantom Of The Opera over the barrage of criticism he received following his marriage to Angelina Jolie, and blames their split on his own lack of confidence.
The pair was Hollywood's odd couple when they got wed in 2000 shortly after meeting on the set of their movie Pushing Tin a year earlier.
They courted controversy with their public displays of affection on the red carpet and by wearing vials containing each other's blood around their neck.
Thornton and Jolie split in 2002, and the actor cites his own insecurities over dating the renowned beauty as the reason he "blew" the marriage.
He tells America's Nightline show, "I blew it because I didn't think I was good enough for her. She has one way she wanted to live her life and I had another way to live mine and I was just too insecure.
"I did feel like the Phantom of the Opera hiding in the catacombs... People have actually said that I didn't deserve to be with her."...

There seems to be no hard feelings between Angelina Jolie and her ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton, as the actress penned some pretty high praises for Billy in the forward of his new book The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts.

According to Life & Style, Angelina wrote that her former lover "has a big beautiful heart," and reportedly went on to gush, "He has an unmatchable wit and can make you laugh until your face hurts ... I know one thing: The world would certainly be a hell of a lot more dull if that man weren't in it."
This news follows Angelina's highly publicized engagement to her partner of seven years, Brad Pitt.
The news source reports that Billy Bob recently took the blame for the failure of his marriage to Angelina, saying, "I blew it because I didn't think I was good enough for her ... She has one way she...

The Baytown Disco, the grits-n-hominy crime flick that’s come barrelling out of the left field of the indie scene over the past year, finally has a new trailer. If there’s any kind of justice in the world, this movie would already be out, but there you go. I guess we’ll have to make do with this slab of promotional material.
For whatever reason, an embeddable version of the trailer is unavailable. But you can whip on over to Deadline, check it out, then head back.
Done? Awesome, wasn’t it? Yeah, you can go check it out again, I’ll wait.
In case you can’t tell, we down at the Complex have a southern-fried boner for this movie, and have had for some time. What started as a frantic six-and-a-half-minute short film has evolved fairly quickly into a full-blown “southern whip-ass extravaganza,” the exact sort of high-octane,...

Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton's marriage ended because he didn't want kids, according to one of his ex-wives. Melissa deBin-Parish - who was married to the 56-year-old 'Bad Santa' actor from 1978 to 1980 - claims it was Billy's lack of desire for children that drove them apart. She said: 'I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he did not want to be around children back then. Look at the timeline: she adopted Maddox and then, [Billy] was gone.' Actor contributes foreword to ex-husband's memoir The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts, written with Kinky Friedman
In a further sign that they may have Hollywood's best post-breakup relationship, Angelina Jolie has written the foreword to ex-husband Billy-Bob Thornton's forthcoming book of memoirs, The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts.
Written in conjunction with musician-author Kinky Friedman, The Billy Bob Tapes promises "colorful tales of his modest Southern upbringing, his bizarre phobias, his life, his loves (including his heartbreakingly brief marriage to fellow Oscar winner Angelina Jolie), and, of course, his movie career."
Thornton was married to Jolie between 2000 and 2003 (though they separated in 2002) after meeting on the set of the 1999 film, Pushing Tin. Their relationship quickly became tabloid fodder (including the now-notorious "phials of blood" they wore on necklaces) but their friendship appears to have survived intact.

Billy Bob Thornton thinks there's a strong affinity between the American south and the English. Which explains why three Brits turn up unexpectedly in his latest film, Jayne Mansfield's Car
Billy Bob Thornton fixes me with a laser-eye stare, and briefly bares a mouthful of teeth in his southern-genteel grin. "I love British people," he says. "I always have. Fact of the matter is, my people came from you guys. The south was settled by the English, Scotch and Irish. You get into Minnesota and Wisconsin, that's German and Swedes, but our area is predominantly from the British Isles."
Overlooking the fact that few use "Scotch" any more, and that many Irish people would object to being lumped in with the British Isles, you get his drift: from Arkansas, where Thornton grew up, it probably all looks pretty similar. But it also explains the oddest aspect of his new film,...

This year's nominations are neither trashy nor po-faced. The usual heavyweight suspects are in, balanced by thornier fare
It is at this point that our cosy awards season tips into air-traffic nightmare, like some fevered, Sweded version of Pushing Tin re-enacted with gold statuettes. The Golden Globes have barely left the runway, outbound for oblivion, when the Baftas hove into view, its business class crammed with many of the same passengers we thought we'd only just waved off. The whole thing's confusing; it's starting to blur. Surely there must be an award for the harassed, faceless controller in charge of ensuring that all these awards don't collide in some ghastly mid-air fireball.
Until then we're left with the Bafta nominations, with its happy huddle of The Help and The Artist, The Descendants and Tintin. We've seen these names before and will doubtless see them again when the Oscar shortlist is announced next week.

In case you didn’t know, the last Harry Potter film is coming out on July 15th. In countdown to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, I will be doing a bi-weekly series called “Harry Potter as Cinema”, starting with the first film in the series and working my way up to the final film. I will take an academic approach to the Harry Potter films as pieces of cinema, examining not only their quality but also what they are saying thematically.

Female Force: Angelina Jolie is a biographical comic book about the famous actress — but you wouldn’t know that from the cover (see left). No, based on the cover (and not on reality), this is a brave piece of muckraking journalism which offers the looniest conspiracy theory this side of everything Oliver Stone has said in the last decade: Apparently, the being we know as “Angelina Jolie” is actually three extraordinarily attractive triplets. On the far left is Teasingly Charming Angelina, star of Pushing Tin and The Good Shepherd. In the middle is Gorgeously Brutal Angelina, star of action-stravaganzas like Salt and Wanted.

Margin Call, Jc Chandor's debut feature, is an honourable attempt – but he doesn't quite pull it off
The answer is, obviously, for anyone who saw Enron, yes. But one of the key to Enron's success was, for me, its departure from realism – which of course is so much easier in theatre than film. In Lucy Prebble's drama, metaphor became real. Dinosaurs stalked the stage and market analysts broke out in close-harmony singing. Tellingly, perhaps, Enron wasn't even ostensibly about the financial crisis of 2008; but it was certainly "about" it.
So did Margin Call, which premiered at the Berlin film festival yesterday, work?
The movie, by first-time writer-director Jc Chandor, is set on one day in an investment bank. A junior – a 28-year-old with an engineering PhD in propulsion – "so, you're basically a rocket scientist" (boom-boom) – figures out all is not well. There is one way for the bank to salvage itself,...

The Monster's Ball star thinks this is an awful period for film. But are we really worse off than, say, the Police Academy years?
Billy Bob Thornton knows a thing or two about quality. He's risen to the top of his profession with standout turns in films like Monster's Ball, The Man Who Wasn't There and Bad Santa. At the same time, he's also managed to bumble into dimwitted Shia Labeouf thrillers (Eagle Eye), arthritic comedies (Mr Woodcock) and aimless dramas about the air traffic control industry (Pushing Tin). So when Billy Bob Thornton speaks about quality, you know he's had plenty of experience on both sides.
That's why, when he told the Telegraph last week Hollywood is currently producing the worst movies ever made, people listened. According to Thornton, these films are "geared toward the video game-playing generation. And these video games – which I'm on my son about constantly...

Peep Show, Robert's Web, the end of Merlin, a repeat for Sherlock, and the conclusion of The Trip. Meet our UK TV round-up of what's coming...
After a couple weeks' break, we play catch-up this week with new programme starts, say goodbye with series finales, and hello once more to a very welcome return visit. All coming up in the next seven days on UK telly.
Last week, the excellent Peep Show, starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, aired the first episode of its seventh series. Mark is now a dad, although a reluctant one initially, and there's evidence of plenty left in the tank for the show, even at this great running distance, as you can see in our review of the premiere here. The series continues on Channel 4 tonight, Friday, December 3rd at 10:00pm and if you want to catch up, you can watch episode 1 here.

Subject: Angelina Jolie Voight, 35-year-old American actress
Date of Assessment: July 23, 2010
Positive Buzzwords: Action, focus, intensity
Negative Buzzwords: Tabloids, drama, Aniston
The Case: Well, I do believe that -- at least according to the "women have always been the worst enforcers of misogyny" school of thought -- I'm supposed to hate Angelina Jolie, although I'm not entirely sure why. Supposedly, she's a freakishly beautiful, husband-stealing, Oscar-baiting, brother-kissing, vial-of-blood-wearing voodoo priestess and do-gooding humanitarian who's adopted a veritable rainbow of children, not to mention -- let's face it -- one strange cat. Unfortunately for those of you rubbing your hands together in gleeful anticipation, I actually love Angelina Jolie.
At least, I adore the action-movie Jolie incarnation, which is where she's truly needed in Hollywood. Although, it is slightly bizarre how Jolie has become an unparalleled go-to-girl for action leads and a rather peerless one at that. Sure, Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton,...

It's hard to believe now, but back in 1999 Angelina Jolie received only fourth billing for Mike Newell's Pushing Tin. It's even harder to believe that the names in front of her are John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Cate Blanchett. So pervasive is the Angelina Jolie brand in 2010, a brand she's held strong for at least half a decade now, that the suggestion she was ever that girl in the Meat Loaf video seems impossible.
But before '99, the best shot she had of attending the Oscars was on the arm of her father, Jon Voight. When she won the Best Supporting Actress trophy that year for Girl, Interrupted, everything changed. Six months later she'd prove her blockbuster worth on the set of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and a star would be born.
In the years since she's wowed mainstream and indie audiences to equal measure, with starring roles in the likes of Wanted,...

Posterized [episode 4]
Angelina Jolie turns 35 today. Her supernova career holds many lessons for talented young actors (and we civilians, too). While an unforgettable presence, the key ingredient, is not exactly duplicable even for those with above average skills, other elements are. If a young actor can muster up even half of her watchability, they'll have a robust career. Just a quick perusal of her filmography brings certain lessons to light.
Cyborg 2 (1993) | Hackers (1995) | Foxfire (1996)
Rule #1 Take anything you can get (at first).
Ms. Jolie, unlike many children of Oscar winning movie stars before her, didn't exactly aim high at first. She'd do youth movies, genre movies, straight to video movies, music videos, short films, television, cyborg movies. You can lose a lot of opportunities if you're too picky, too soon. Those posters up top are just a few from her teenage and early 20s period.

People about to watch Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will have two reasons to walk into the theatre with trepidation. Some may ask why the titular Prince doesn’t look very Persian; those who have played the Prince of Persia video games will wonder whether this is another disastrous game-to-film adaptation that will discredit both media forms. These worries can mostly be put to rest. Whatever keeps the film, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Pushing Tin) from being a masterpiece has very little to do with its video game origins.
The Sands of Time’s plot keeps a surprising amount of the eponymous 2003 game’s plot. Credit for that can probably go to Jordan Mechner, who created the first Prince of Persia game back in 1989 and penned the original screenplay for the film. Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a...

Traditionally, late April hasn't been the most exciting time at the box office, but Hollywood has been making more and more attempts to capitalize on the days leading up to the summer movie season. Five Years Ago - 2005 The Interpreter topped the box office with $22.8 million at 2,758 theaters. It was one of the biggest-grossing debuts for a political thriller at the time. In second, The Amityville Horror (2005) had a solid second weekend hold by horror standards, while Sahara held well in third. The other nationwide debuts were a bust: A Lot Like Love opened to $7.6 million, Kung Fu Hustle mustered just $6.7 million and King's Ransom was ignored with $2.1 milllion. * Weekend Report Ten Years Ago - 2000 Trying to offer summer excitement in April, U-571 emerged with a chart-topping $19.6 million at 2,583 sites. That was and still is the highest-grossing debut ever for a submarine thriller, although it didn't pack quite as many...

Here are two more suitably luscious looking posters for the upcoming Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time movie, this time featuring Gemma Arterton's Tamina and Ben Kingsley's Nazim.
Anything surprising? No, not really. But we're quite keen to see what Mike Newell does with one of the classic videogaming franchises, if, for no other reason than we really like Pushing Tin. Yeah, so, sue us.
The posters come courtesy of Imp Awards, by the way, so thanks to them.

Vanessa Paradis is saying “no way!” to Johnny & Angelina’s love scene in The Tourist!
With Angelina Jolie’s history of hooking up with her taken co-stars, it’s no surprise that Vanessa Paradis doesn’t want her man, Johnny Depp, anywhere near the star! Angelina and Johnny are currently filming The Tourist together in Venice, but according to The New York Post, Vanessa “ordered [Johnny] to find another gig!”
Angelina co-starred with Billy Bob Thorton in Pushing Tin in 1999, when he was engaged to Laura Dern. By 2000, Angelina and Billy Bob were married in a quicky Las Vegas wedding. And of course there was Brad Pitt, who was married to Jennifer Aniston — until he met Angelina on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith!
And now, even though Angelina and Brad are together, and even have six children together, Vanessa wants Johnny Out of the The Tourist!
