Ute Lemper sparkles in this "Moscow Parade"
gonz3031 May 1999
PRORVA ("Moscow Parade") is the first Russian (post-Soviet Union) view of Stalinist excesses. Since it was released, many films have addressed the same topic, most (all that I have seen)with better results than this one. However, here we can enjoy UTE LEMPER. This versatile and sultry German chanteuse/actress/ dancer not to mention London and Broadway star is simply brilliant. Her role as a former aristocrat (pre-revolution) and singer seems tailor-made to showcase her amazing range of talents. Only her leggy, unique beauty and classical German beauty are not revealed, as she was obviously made up, dyed hair and all, in an attempt to "russify" her appearance. Her convincing portrayal of a young woman, already emotionally scarred for life, is made better by the all-too-short glimpses of her erotic appeal, seductive singing (a la Dietrich and Piaf),and acrobatic-like dancing. Videos of Ute Lemper doing just that are available, by the way, but if you want a drama with a plot (and can't see her live in CHICAGO), seeing "Prorva" is the next best thing. She is also the best reason to see PRORVA.

Ute Lemper is a knock out
gonz3025 May 1999
The best reason to see MOSCOW PARADE (Prorva) is to see Ute Lemper in action. This versatile German artist can do it all, and this film gives the best glimpse at her many talents when she was in her mid 20's. She is currently starring on Broadway in CHICAGO, after having originated the same role in London's CHICAGO version. Too bad that's not on video. Meanwhile, settle for PRORVA. The only downside is that in making her look Russian for PRORVA, they decidedly made her appear much less attractive, as if there were no beautiful long legged blonde Russians.
