A license deal for rights to “Apostles” and “Bodyshop” was struck by Breaking Glass Pictures and Artwalker, the production company through which the auteur’s entire movie career has been channeled. Breaking Glass is planning a limited theatrical this Fall for “Apostles” and a limited theatrical release in the fourth quarter of 2022 for “Bodyshop.”
“After 16 years, I’m quitting the active pursuit of filmmaking. What remains in my career will be the distribution of ‘Bodyshop’ and ‘Apostles,’ my 8th and 9th film made, and a project I started for a trilogy about the lockdown era, as well as ‘Naked Nation’ that I wrote a decade ago about the Chinese culture and history based on my family, the making of which are indefinite.

The Notebook Primer introduces readers to some of the most important figures, films, genres, and movements in film history.Golden Eighties From a broad angle view, it seems as though all movies made in the 1980s could be classified as either action or musical. The neon glitz of the decade easily melds with the flamboyance of musicals, and it was a time when budgets soared, so lavish song-and-dance set pieces fit in nicely with the decadence. But 80s musicals also changed things up in the genre—sometimes focusing more on choreography, other times the songs. The burgeoning cult status of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) also had producers scrambling for the ineffable weirdness that captured the imagination of an audience so intensely that they wanted to spend every weekend watching and mimicking what so delighted them on screen This resulted in odd choices that inevitably flopped, and took decades to gain a devoted following,...

Harley heads home to reconnect with her roots in a charmingly mundane episode of Harley Quinn
Though the last outing of Harley Quinn might have been slightly lackluster, it turns out splitting up the crew of crims wasn't necessarily a bad thing. The 10th episode of animated series delves into the history of the (anti)heroine and looks at the impact that Harley and (her absence) has on those around her.
One of the funnest things about Harley Quinn is how much creative freedom the team behind it have been given, and they take full advantage of that here offering a completely new backstory that's as hilarious as it is completely and utterly ridiculous.
Harley's origin has long been one steeped in the baggage of being the Joker's girlfriend. Whether it's their toxic relationship or him driving her mad enough to fall in love with him we've...

The actor talks about his Oscar nomination for The Two Popes and his new role as Don Quixote, before moving on to the vexed subject of inequality in the movie industry
It is the day after the Oscar nominations, and Jonathan Pryce is perched at a corner table in a humdrum London bar, guest of honour at the saddest celebration in town. His first best-actor nomination has been a long time coming. At the age of 72, he has arrived. “Best newcomer,” he says ruefully. “Although I already do have a best newcomer award. It was for Breaking Glass. Back in 1980.”
It is no surprise to see Pryce honoured for his lovely performance in The Two Popes, a likable Netflix drama that spotlights the bromance between Benedict and Francis, but it knocked him sideways all the same. He had not thought he stood a chance; he had just come out of...

Here's a look at the most heroic gifts you can give or get this year!
Superheroes aren't going anywhere anytime soon. From the box office-shattering reciepts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the television triumphs of Watchmen and Doom Patrol, 2019 was a very good year for costumed crime fighters. Here's a rundown of some of our favorite gift ideas this year that will make you a shopping superhero!
Watchmen Companion
Now that the first (only?) season of HBO's Watchmen is over, interest in all things based on the story are once again high. In a bit of timeliness that would make Dr. Manhattan proud, DC has just released ths volume of ephemeral material from the 1980s that includes materials from the Watchmen RPG, comic cameos, and more. The most interesting part? All of this stuff was endorsed by Alan Moore himself. How's that for a Christmas miracle?...

Billionaires deserve to be satirized more than anyone else in the universe, and that's exactly what Billionaire Island will do.
In a world where rich people think having money means you’re a genius, you get things like doomed, lawless, vanity campaigns for president, a strip-mined media landscape, and vampires. Fortunately, you also get the sharpest comedic team in recent comic book memory teed up to absolutely brutalize these dudes in a new series coming from Ahoy Comics.
Billionaire Island is a new series from Mark Russell and Steve Pugh, the pair who created the most unbelievably funny comic in years in The Flintstones. “Billionaire Island tells the story of Freedom Unlimited (Fu Island), a private island created and populated by billionaires hoping to wait out the end of the world,” said Russell. “But because they are in international waters and not subject to any law, their...

When it comes to Batman, there are so many villains to pluck from his comic books that filmmakers could probably make dozens of movies without reusing a single one of them. The problem is that a numerous amount of them are so iconic that nobody can stand to see some absent from the silver screen for too long.
One such example is that of Poison Ivy. Though she first appeared in the pages of Batman #181 in 1966, she’s shown up in only one movie since that time – and that was 1997’s abysmal Batman & Robin. Still, the femme fatale has enjoyed a variety of animated adaptations and returned to the live action realm while Gotham was still airing on Fox.
Movies are a whole different ballgame, though. While it’s doubtful Poison Ivy will show up in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, we can’t rule out her doing so in a potential sequel.

“Socrates” is the kind of downward-spiral narrative bound to sound relentlessly bleak in description. But small wonder Alex Moratto’s first feature won him the Independent Spirit “Someone to Watch” Award in January, along with various other prizes along the festival trail: He imbues this unhappy slice of slum life with an energy and compassion that transcends mere miserabilism.
With breakout performances by its two young male leads, the tale of a poor gay teen struggling to stay afloat after the death of a parent in Sao Paolo belies its short running time with a sense of full dramatic realization. It’s an engrossing portrait that Breaking Glass will give a limited U.S. theatrical release in early August. DVD/VOD launch follows later that month.
“Socrates” was made with a crew of 16- to 20-year-olds from the Quero Institute, a Unicef-supported project introducing low-income Sao Paolo youths to filmmaking.
