A family from Philadelphia stays with the Henshaws for an afternoon when their trailer breaks down outside the house. Ruth and Matt squabble over where to spend a second honeymoon.
While preparing for a trip to Texas, Lily is concerned that if she and Bill marry, that Hilda will be left out and feel alone. Bill has a friend who is available, but likes his women thin, prompting Lily to get Hilda to go on a diet.
The group stays at Bill Jeffries' ranch in Texas. Lily realizes that Bill's late wife, Kathleen, casts a long shadow over the ranch. Matt and Pete enter a poker game with some of Bill's friends.
Desi Arnaz appears as a neighbor whose house begins to sink due to a construction error seemingly made by Lily's son-in-law. Lily conspires to meet with Arnaz to resolve the conflict.
Lily gets a ticket for illegally crossing the street but she objects and decides to fight it. The one most concerned is Matt as he thinks it will ruin his membership chances at the toney country club.
