First version of the famous story, the good twin and the bad twin...Elisabeth Bergner's most subtle, beautiful film performance. Superb finale, in the Acropolis in the moonlight. Far richer than the Bette Davis re-make. Please help find this and bring it to new audiences! Michael Redgrave outstanding as the leading man caught between the two.

Although remade as a Hollywood vehicle for Bette Davis at the height of her allure (which managed to make the preposterous contrivance which lies at its heart somehow more plausible) this got there first and builds up to a powerful climax in its own right. The surreal final shot (worthy of Chirico) is quite giddyingly beautiful in its unapologetic daftness.
