Delicious rom-com! except for one big thing
10 May 2024
You'll immediately notice that all shots of the planets and the spaceship are made of paper mache, meaning that the characters are in a sort of long teenager honeymoon phase without realizing it, while the plot revolves around adult and theoretical (funny) conversations that try to ignore or rationalise it. If you watch the movie with this in mind, you'll super love it from beginning to end! But there is one thorn in the foot of the production: the casting. Don't get me wrong the chemistry between Anthony Mackie and Zoë Chao is hilarious. But it's a pity to have let somehow slip some of the infamous 2020 shamdoctrination. Biased diversity and wrong stereotypes, Missi Pyle and Geoff Stults left for the worst characters, plus a few wrong costumes and outrageous status placed on the wrong characters destroy the fong shwe. If we disregard these heavy mistakes that reaped 4 stars from its rating, this comedy is bittersweet but still remains, in the end, definitely worth watching more than once.
