Review of Old King Log

I, Claudius: Old King Log (1976)
Season 1, Episode 13
10/10
Poetic, powerful, emotional ending to a superb series

Several years have passed since Messalina was executed and Herod died, leaving Claudius quite alone. His closest advisers, Pallas and Narcissus, are urging him to take a wife. To their surprise he opts for Pallas's suggestion, Agrippinilla, his niece. His choice seems fraught with danger: she is cunning and has regal ambitions for her son, Nero.

The series seems to get better with every episode and this, the final episode, bears that out. Excellent episode and conclusion as we see Claudius in his twilight years, his rather fatalist view on things and his memories.

Even now there's Machiavellian plots afoot, just to remind us that it never stops and what shaped Roman history.

Quite emotional in the end as we see Claudius's agenda and he is reminded of everyone he has known and lost and all he has been though.

Stunningly poetic ending.
