It's sequel time, and instead of adapting any of the pile of already published books, Universal decided to go a different way. "Fletch Lives" has Chevy Chase in Louisiana, dabbling in tired Southern cliches and dated gags. That's right, the simple rednecks, televangelists and swamp humor are all here; Chase even shows up in a Confederate general's uniform. Because of course he does.
I'm not out to excoriate, it's just that the quality drop-off from the first movie (in every aspect ) is severe; the writing in this movie is DOA.
