Refreshing take on isekai genre
26 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Lately the isekai genre has been lackluster - too many same tired plots about over-powered characters, for example. But "Oshi no Ko", based on the manga series of the same name, is refreshingly different. I have not read the manga, but so far the anime version is good.

The main character is easily Hoshino Aquamarine, who used to be Dr Amemiya Gorou, who along with his twin sister Hoshino Ruby get to live out their otaku fantasies as children of an up and coming idol Hoshino Ai. So far not so unusual.

However, the anime is quite honest about the cut-throat nature and vacuousness of the idol industry, and that is refreshing. Also, there's a couple of moments when Aqua is called seijuku baby (mature baby) by a small-time director or snotty baby by Ai.

Later he's just called seijuku. Hilarious :D

Ruby's story, however, is more somber. As is Ai's story also. After the first episode, which is basically the prologue, the story takes us to the present when both Aqua and Ruby are now teenagers, with new but related plot lines.

I hope this series will be really good.
