Im pretty surprised of the movie to be honest. Yes the plot is kind of predictable, sometimes too much jumpscares, pretty classic overall but..... the ambience, the atmosphere, the work arround the lights, the mood, some camera movements really made us uneasy. The movie start in a normal way and make it pretty clear from the beginning: there will be blood and not a little. The gore didnt really bothered me and really just feel natural because of the paranormal event and that sister who turn into a monster. Like i said the plot is pretty classic: they discover a book and after they opened it with listening to an audio about demonic stuff the monsters will appear. I really loved the transformation of the sister into a monster and find the make up really effective and really make us scared by her look. The movie its more a survival horror than a psychological horror. The characters are not that deep in term of background but there are interesting enough to make us want them to succeed for sure. I enjoyed also the story behind the ritual and that man who explained what happened after they opened the book: it really make us want to understand and how they can deal with that problem. The end let us think that it will have maybe a next movie? It really look like they prepared something else for a next movie but not sure for now. Like i said i really enjoyed it and found it pretty entertaining and the shots, the mood, the ambience, the plot really entertained me during the whole movie. A nice surprise.
