The storm is brewing; a solid introduction to a turbulent season

I am somewhat of an idiot, as I haven't seen a single season of 'The Crown' prior to this one, but seeing as it's an anthology series I decided to take the plunge and give it a go, and I must say I'm impressed so far.

'The Crown' has reached its 5th season, which takes place during the 90's, which was a particularly turbulent decade for the Royal Family, and this ominous feeling is felt from the start.

The conflict between Charles and Diana, the public disapproval towards The Queens supposedly outdated sovereignty and John Majors unfortunate job of dealing with both the Queen and Charles, during the height of an economic recession, is acutely felt within the first episode.

The acting is of an incredibly high standard from the ensemble, who fully immerse themselves in their respective roles, my compliments to Elizabeth Debicki, she perfectly displays the troubled princess through her excellent performance.

The script is crisp and precise, and the pacing is spot on. Overall, this first episode acts as a slick, and informative first episode in what appears to be a defining and turbulent season, I look forward to viewing the next 9 episodes.
