There's not too many hockey movies when compared to the other big sports, namely football, and baseball, and basketball. 'Mystery, Alaska' happens to also be one of the better hockey movies out there which includes 'Slap Shot', 'Miracle', and the first 'Mighty Ducks'. It's also got a killer cast, I just wished some of the Rangers at the time were in the film.
Couldn't help but notice there was a character sporting number 9 with the last name of Banks, just like Adam Banks on the Hawks in 'Mighty Ducks'. I feel as though this should be a continued theme in hockey films. Just a thought.
The characters were able to convincingly provide the locker room feel and comraderie of a team that's been together for a long time. The film did a solid job of portraying a small northern town in either Alaska or Canada. Being a huge hockey nerd myself, this was a fun watch.
Mike Myers and Phil Esposito were great cameos.
