Aunt Bee at Her Best

Frances Bavier's heartfelt portrayal of Aunt Bee is nowhere better seen than in this episode. She IS Aunt Bee. And Mr. Foley's character is heart tugging, as the sincere butcher holding on to the soon to be obsolete concept of providing the best service to his customers.

I did notice one line making Bee look pretty foolish in finding a freezer repairman--she tells Andy "we could get that man who fixed my clothesline" (Seriously?)

Also, to replace the obvious absence of beloved Barney the writers gave Gomer some good lines in a short scene which works just right. Of course it wont please those missing Barney. But this story has so much more to recommend it than big laughs.

This episode documents the "good old days" in retail business when store owners were interested in their customers. There's much more here; watch for Bee's single word "typhoid" in the final scene. Overall, she was a wonderful actress on this series.
