Madness
3 July 2022
In the Mouth of Madness we get taken on a journey of insanity, slow burn but more and more mystery builds up. Though it stays somewhat cheesy mainly due to the scenes with the writer, Sutter Cane.

Neill gives a great performance here and was one of the main reasons for me to keep going with the movie. The music is not exceptional from Carpenter, Directing on the other hand is very good. It also carried a good amount of the movie.

Some of the acting from other characters never really landed for me, especially Styles seems to have a iffy performances and not fully committed.

Creatures and horror practical effects are pretty great overall, only some instances where the red pain makeup on people is a bit much. But the creatures are great though they don't get enough screen time. Seriously we needed more of them and have them longer on screen. The old hotel lady was great but such a short scene.

Scary factor.. not so much, contains mostly jump scares but not egregious. Body horror is good but too fake looking to believe, though being practical was appreciated, it just didn't sell well enough.

The spoiling framing device I was not a fan of, we could've done without and in return could've had a lot more mystery and surprise on where the lead would end up. Final scene was good though, fitting.

Decent horror. Enjoyable journey into insanity.
