Some Girl(s) (2013)
5/10
A lot of talking and not much else

Warning: Spoilers
Some Girl(s) is a strange little indie movie that isn't terrible but never really gets anywhere either. Also it is not a comedy. I never laughed once. The film follows Adam, who is going around trying to make amends with his exes before he gets married, or so we initially think. We come to learn that for one reason or another, Adam has run away from basically every relationship he has been in, leaving behind shattered girls. The film is basically different versions of the same thing as he goes and talks to one of these women. They explain how he hurt them, and Adam tries to justify his actions. But basically Adam is a terrible person. For the most part, the acting is good, but it is really repetitive and kind of boring. Also, I was surprised to learn that a woman directed this movie since it is such a male-driven film. The movie is about Adam, and while there are some great female actors in this film, they are defiantly not the main focus. I was so confused when I started watching it that I didn't see Kristen Bell, who isn't actually in the film until the last act. Also, I found this movie on DVD at a local store, so it may have just been my version, but in the scene with Kristen Bell and Adam, their words didn't match their lips. It was like watching a boring version of Godzilla (I love Godzilla, FYI). Anyway, it was an okay movie but nothing special. I do agree with one of the other reviewers who said the ending made it a little better. For those who want to know, in the last act, we find that Adam has been taping his conversations with his ex to use them in his work. He also has a history of writing about his love life and selling it as fiction, much to the dismay of these women he has dated. So at the end of the film, you cannot help but wonder if Adam was actually sincere in what he was doing or if he was just doing it to have something to write about. This ambiguity is further reinforced in the film's final shot, where he gives the female flight attendant a devilish grin. And we are left wondering will he leave his fiancé for this new lady or not? And was this all just a big game? It's fun to think about, but overall the movie was nothing special and should've been better with the talent it had in it.
