Written by Richard Curtis and with a runtime of only twelve minutes, we're invited to the wedding of Miranda (Lily James), who is the daughter of Charles (Hugh Grant) and Carrie (Andie McDowell), to Faith (Alicia Vikander), daughter of Charles's best friend and one time admirer, Fiona (Kristin Scott Thomas). Written and filmed for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day, which took place on March 15th of this year, we get a quick glimpse into where the characters from Four Weddings and a Funeral are today. (Beware of potential spoilers below I guess?)
Charles and Carrie have never wed, but they've been together since that kiss in the rain (there is also a different take on Carrie's famous "Is it raining? I hadn't noticed." line). Fiona doesn't mention who Faith's father is, so I'm going to go ahead and assume it's Prince Charles since they apparently were married at the end of FWAAF.
Matthew (John Hannah) is married and Lydia (Sophie Thompson) and Bernard (David Haig) are still adorable and have a handful of children. There are a few other brief cameos from the surviving cast (RIP Charlotte Coleman). I was not an overly huge fan of Four Weddings and a Funeral, but this was a cute, progressive "sequel" to the film. Lily James and Alicia Vikander are both beautiful brides and Rowan Atkinson delivers the only laughs as the bumbling priest who has clearly not presided over many LGBTQ weddings. I sort of wish this had been made into a feature-length film, maybe in the vein of Father of the Bride. Hugh Grant is aging gracefully and I miss seeing him in romantic comedies.
