8/10
A great example of how to deliver a social message without boring the audience.

Great entertainment throughout the runtime. There is not a single dull moment in the film. Visuals are stunning and A. R. Rahman has come up with music which is one of his best works in recent years. A movie like Mersal is a good example of how to deliver a social message without boring the audience. Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha get a song each, and that's pretty much their role, but Nithya Menon has a well-defined role and she has delivered an outstanding performance. These kind of films are often blamed for being over the top and unrealistic, but why is it necessary for every film to be realistic ? Some writers and directors create a world through their movies which is very different from the real world, allowing viewers to forget all the troubles and worries of their life and experience uninhibited joy for a short while. Those creators believe, that why would anyone want to see the misery of their real life in movies as well ? Why not give them hope and happiness instead ? Americans make superhero movies for the same reason, and all of them do very well at the box office, India cannot make such expensive movies, so we have movies like Mersal. Kudos to director Atlee and the lead actor Vijay for making a film that not only entertains, but also talks about a very real issue plaguing our medical fraternity. Mersal is a must watch for everyone!
