The Nevers (2021–2023)
6/10
I'll give season 2 a try but I have a feeling the storyline ran out of gas after 5 episodes

The Nevers Season 1 (2021) is a 6-episode series my wife and I recently watched on HBOMax. The storyline follows people who have unique "mutant-like" powers who find themselves struggling within a society that doesn't appreciate their gifts and often alienate them. Some of the "mutant-like" creatures turn to good and some turn to evil and the good ones will try to convince themselves, society and their evil counterparts these powers aren't a bad thing. This series was created by Jose Whedon (The Avengers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and stars Laura Donnelly (Outlander), Ann Skelly (Red Rock), Olivia Williams (The Ghost Writer), James Norton (Mr. Jones) and Zackary Momoh (Doctor Sleep). The storyline for this feels very much like X-men, hence my word choices above. The settings and mutant/magic elements had a classic Salem feel to it if Salem was in Europe. The series does have fascinating characters and action elements with great special effects. The series has a solid build up and at the end of episode 5 you couldn't be more excited about the direction of the show...then episode 6 happens which had a Westworld season 2 feel to it for me and let all the air out of the balloon and causes the series to fall a bit flat. I'll give season 2 a try but I have a feeling the storyline ran out of gas after 5 episodes. I'd score this a 6/10.
