It's 1937 London. Various occupants live in a boarding house. A dead body is found and the police investigates. It's a British murder mystery with a side of light comedy. At least, I take the overacting as comedic. More than a couple of the actors are playing to the back rows. It feels like a play or adapted from one. It's an old fashion whodunnit where dead bodies pop up and there are plenty of suspects. Unlike most murder mysteries, the investigator is not a main character. Then there is the final twist. It's not the most compelling. It feels like a literary trick which deflates more than intrigue. It does explain the play-like acting within the movie but the acting needs to be broader for the ending reveal to truly pay off.
