Warning: Spoilers
I wrote a review of Spike Of Bensonhurst 11 years ago ( I called it a Mob Film Classic) and it is.. I am following up because of the comments good and bad. First off you really need to be from New York to get the movie. Next, and this is very different for a movie, is Spike has two love interests ( both of whom he gets pregnant), the tomboyish but beautiful secondary one ( India) is the one he ends up with. She is actually the better selection. Why? 1: First and foremost he really loves only India. The other woman ( Angel) says "Are you marrying me or my father" ( a powerful Mafia Don named Baldo Cacetti)and Spike says "Whatever." By comparison, he gets jealous when India dances with another guy. 2:,Beneath it all Spike is a good person. Watch how he saves the Puerto Rican boxer Bandanna ( India's brother) from being beaten up and leads people against drug dealers in Red Hook, As for India, she is actually perfect for him. She rarely speaks but has everything under control (including Spike). Spoilers ahead: At the end, they live in a small apartment with two children ( they had another kid), in economically disadvantaged Red Hook, but they are happy which no one else in the entire film is. Take Spike's parents. He is in prison and his wife becomes a lesbian. When he gets out the other woman leaves and they act like happy husband and wife, or Angel and her Ivy League but mobster husband. She actually says to her husband about her son "He looks like Spike" and her husband says nothing. In the end, Spike was smart enough to put love above anything else and was rewarded with India. Ps. You can now find the movie online @ Youtube.
