Resident Evil: Revelations (2012 Video Game)
8/10
A surprisingly engaging title in the RE series

Warning: Spoilers
Resident Evil Revelations has been on sale on Switch for a while now and out of morbid curiosity I bought it as it was only 6 pounds and I must say I'm sorta impressed. First of all I find it hard to believe this was originally a 3DS title, the graphics are pretty damn good! The gameplay is a mixture of 4 and 1 although all the puzzle solving is dealt with manually which unfortunately takes out the thinking element which I loved so much from those first few games. The action gameplay is pretty strong and there are some genuinely great moments in the campaign. I haven't played raid mode yet but I've heard it's good. There is a bit more of an emphasis on horror here than in most late Resi titles and I think Revelations benefits from this. The T-Abyss virus has a couple really great bosses and fodder designs although they can blend a bit here and there. The campaign is off the wall and surprisingly nuanced. Although some of the characters are irritating I found myself liking quite a few of them, especially Parker and Raymond as well as Jill and Chris of course. I'm indifferent to the episodic/series style they've gone for, it never hindered my experience but never added to it either. Honestly, it's not as good as the first 4 games but it's not a bad game, far from it. If you see this on sale and you're a fan of those earlier Resident Evil games, I recommend checking this one out, and even if you do like Resident Evil 5 and 6 this game ties loosely into them at the end. I think I'm giving Revelations a light to decent 8/10
