The best parts of COMMANDANTE (2003) are when Oliver Stone attempts to get Fidel to laugh by posing absurd questions to him ("Have you ever considered seeing a psychiatrist? What movie actresses did you like? Rita Hayworth?) and Fidel finally cracking a smile when Stone jokes about the Americans trying so many times to kill him) We see Stone and Fidel hanging out as Fidel visits various places sans bodyguards and everyone thrilled to see him. Stone and Fidel riding in the back seat of a car out for an adventure. Considering the subject, it's a surprisingly light-hearted documentary about a very tough and remarkable world historical figure.
