Redefined What "Superhero" Means
8 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is the first time ever i wrote a review just for this really extraordinary show, so pardon my grammar and limited vocabulary. I used to think Avengers Endgame was Marvel's peak at story-telling, but then i rewatched the two seasons of Daredevil and watched the third season. I was wrong. I declare that Daredevil is if not, the greatest Marvel's work. And here's why. If we watch superhero movies; Iron Man, Captain America, Spiderman, etc. We simply knows the beginning and the ending right after we knew it's a "superhero" movie. The movie starts with how the main character's life, who's his friend, how they got their power or how they become the "hero". The ending will always be the good guy beats the bad guy, the light beats the dark, the hero beats the villain. I tell you that this show's ending is really one of a kind. Now, i'll start with mentioning few names that are in this show; Stick as the "father" figure of Matt, Elektra as Matt's ex-girlfriend, The Punisher/Frank Castle which is Matt's main villain (or not) in the season two, and the last but not least Kingpin/Wilson Fisk as the main villain of the whole show. I mentioned those characters 'cause they have one simillar "advice" to Matt and they are the biggest influence on how Matt Murdock controls his two side of life, being a normal blind man in the afternoon and being a "superhero" in the evening. The advice i was talking about was "you must cross the border of killing your enemy in order to win a fight, or else you'll become weak forever." They all pushed Matt to break his one Daredevil's rule, to not kill people (just like the Dark Knight). That's the main struggle and main problem for Matt Murdock for the whole show. Daredevil isn't just a some cool superhero names. Matt Murdock literally has Devil inside of his body. The season three really shows what Daredevil is capable of. When Matt was given a choice to either trust the system to arrest Fisk or he just simply cross the border to kill Fisk. He first follow his friend ways, Foggy to trust the system. But then it's easily defeated by Fisk and Matt choosing his own and final way, kill his enemy. But this season (turned out to be the end of the show too) ended with the best scene i've ever watched on superhero show. As the Kingpin bowed in front of the Devil and the Devil is on the edge of crossing that border of rule again, the Devil did an unexpected move. He's at his peak of anger at Fisk and even said "God knows i'll do it (kill him), but he didn't do it. He proves that even he is on the edge to cross the border, he just won't do it. Instead, he "beat" Fisk, forever this time by destroying him from the inside untill Fisk can't hold it anymore and make a word to end it all with one condition, Vanessa his wife will be safe. That's what i mean redefined what "superhero" means. When that person kept his rule, beating his villain by destroying them from inside untill their ideology torn down, not just kill and destroy like we see in most superhero movies. That's why i said this is Marvel's greatest work in their live-action movies/shows. The storytelling is really good, every character developed so deep, we know all the motives they have, their past, and everything. Cinematography, script, choreographies all on point. At this point, maybe this is the only MCU shows that i'll rate 10/10. The funny thing is, i don't mind this show cancelled 'cause these three seasons and one limited series The Defenders are enough for this masterpiece (so far) and i don't want another Arrow or Game of Thrones that too milked until the whole shows feel different. That's not going to happen in Daredevil. I hope.
