Caged Heat (1974)
7/10
Must see for W.I.P. fans

"Caged Heat" is surely one of the best of the women-in-prison exploitation movie sub-genre. If you have seen that I have only rated it 7 stars out of 10, you probably know that that's not saying a whole lot in my opinion.

These movies are kind of all the same, and boring, to boot. You watch them for shower scenes, and don't generally get much else... and some of them don't even know enough to feature much nudity.

Not so for "Caged Heat". It has at least three, possibly four shower scenes, more full frontal nudity than you can shake a stick at, and is shot surprisingly well, with some effective scenes. I guess we shouldn't be surprised it's well directed considering it was made by the guy who did "Silence of the Lambs", but considering it's a low-budget exploitation flick, you don't expect much wizardry behind the camera.

Typically for an exploitation movie, you never really get to know the characters, or even learn their names, which is a shame, because there are moments where you feel for them, including an ugly sexual assault scene. It's also not very well acted.

The loose structure of the movie, which comes together in parts but not in whole, finally had me lose my attention toward the movie's end, but there were good things leading up to that point.

It's thus a must-see for those interested in this sub-genre.
