Kavaludaari (2019)
7/10
Definitely worth a watch!

Kavaludaari/Crossroads is a rare and gritty kannada movie which focuses on a unofficial police investigation after some skeletons are found during the construction of a flyover. The great choice of a asymmetrical character, a traffic cop who investigates the origin of the skeletons sets the pace and keeps us on the edge of our seats for the entire duration of the movie.

Full credit should go to Hemanth M Rao for writing and directing the movie. His work on both fronts remains very good if not outstanding. The movie is neither fast nor slow and moves at a good pace to keep us interested throughout. Editing is mostly good would have been better if about 15-20 minutes of the final cut chopped. Cinematography was definitely a notch above the usual industry standards. Songs & Music were almost under the radar without anything exceptional.

Casting in my opinion was a big let down as a lot of strong characters were let down with some ordinary acting. But considering the talent pool available in Kannada film industry, I am sure the director would have worked with only the best ones available to him. Costumes & makeup especially for the 1970s parts were notably accurate.

Thanks to Amazon prime I got to watch movies like this legally. The movie is one hell of a ride intrigued with lot of uncomfortable questions on human greed, which goes all the way to the top. Crossroads is definitely worth a watch with the family on a lazy Sunday evening.Another point to be noted is that, too many characters pop in and out of the script but rest assured all they would all fall in place as the narrative is crystal clear. This one is a gem from Kannada film industry.
