Barakamon (2014)
8/10
One of the best animation series of the slice of life genre has to offer, Barakamon feels like good old times with friends and loved ones filled with arguments and laughter.

Barakamon tells the story of Handa Sei, an up and coming calligarapher, who acts impulsively and causes a commotion after being criticized for his submission in an exhibit. He is then sent to an island in order to reflect on his actions, and not known to him yet at the time, to show him something much more in life apart from the world of calligraphy.

From its first episode, to its very last, the series utilizes every moment to build upon a supportive community and characters brimming with personality. It revisits childhood innocence to those who seem to have been overcome with the responsibilities that comes with being an adult. Accompanied by beautiful and fitting music tracks for its opening (Rashisha by Super Beaver) and ending (Innocence by NoisyCell), Barakamon gives a feeling reminiscent of times filled with warmth, innocence, and calm.

This is an anime series that one can always come back to a few times to lift up spirits and reconnect with their youth.
