Who are these people? What happened?

I just binged the first 2 seasons and have been enjoying the show immensely.

This season 3 opener, however, was painful to watch. Its like the show just turned into a sitcom, a really bad one ('What's a heart to Heart? - Duh, I'm a grown adult and don't know what a meaningful conversation is'). I checked to see if new writers took over the show, but no, it was still The Duffer Brothers.

Half the cast have completely new personalities, and not for the better. Eleven & Hopper's home life is now a Nickelodeon kids show where the adult acts like a buffoon. Mike is now unbearable. The show even has Mike swearing at Hopper, and Hopper takes it (WTF?). Steve is now a nerd who cant speak to girls - THAT one was a real stretch. I could go on, but you get the point.

Then we get to Nancy's new job. So much cringe. The show is set in the 80's, not the 50's - people don't act like these caricatures in real life. Make the 'sexism' against her believable so we empathise, instead of rolling our eyes.

The best bits were the opening & closing scenes

All in all, extremely disappointing.
