Good addition all in all

Warning: Spoilers
I guess I don't have to explain what this is exactly because the title "The King of Comedy: Deleted and Extended Scenes" is really telling of what you can expect in these 38 minutes. This is included as an extra on the DVD for the BAFTA-winning Scorsese movie "The King of Comedy". Basically 75% of this one are three really long extended scenes that were cut short for the movie and finally there are some mostly brief deleted scenes and some of them are extremely short like the engagement ring sequence for example. The one scene with Liza Minnelli is a bit longer as otherwise I think she was pretty much cut out of the picture altogether. She plays herself basically here being a guest on Lewis' character's show who constantly gets interrupted by Robert De Niro's main character. The latter is in all that is included in these slightly under 40 minutes with the exception of the very beginning which is basically a stand-up routine that Lewis' character starts his show with. Afterwards it it all De Niro. Diahnne Abbott also gets a lot of screen time, which is not too surprising because she is also the central female character in the film being the protagonist's love interest while struggling with other suitors too. By the way, she was married to De Niro and they have two children. Okay, all in all I think this film (more than these add-ons) gets some attention now again too in the face of the recent success of Joaquin Phoenix' Joker movie because there are definitely parallels. I won't go too deep into detail, also because I haven't seen The King of Comedy yet, but even this way they are very obvious with a protagonist who may have an unhealthy obsession with a late night show host. And create fictitious situations in his mind about what happens when he is on the show. And of course, in Joker De Niro plays said late show host. Now back to this one here. Overall, I think it was a pretty entertaining watch and I think the scenes included in here also would have worked nicely in the movie. All in all, a thumbs-up for this one. I recommend checking it out. Maybe watch it after seeing the film it is taken from. Scorsese delivers once again. Just like he does over 35 years later as he has another De Niro blockbuster coming out, which is easily considered one of the big players this award season.
