Okay song and music video
2 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Here we have the music video for the song "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi and looking at how many clikcs this 2019 release has already generated, it sure was a big success. Still is most likely. It is not particularly long at slightly under four minutes and I like the song, even if I wouldn't say it blew me away. The music video also has one bog name to it because the character at the center of the story is played by Scottish Oscar winner Peter Capaldi. The name similarity to the singer a coincidence? I think not. But it is not too important anyway. P. Capaldi plays a man who visits his wife at the hospital and also has encounters with a much younger woman (not romantic) we see with her family too and in the end there is a sweet little gift by a little girl for the ailing old woman. So Capaldi's character is the connection between all characters and in the middle of it all, even if we don't find out too much about him. This would almost be impossible with this running time though. Okay, the writer and director of the video is Phil Beastall, cannot say too much about him. Never heard of the name before and his imdb body of work does not offer too much to mention. But I did like the idea how they included the song this is all about in the music video as we have P. Capaldi with an mp3 player in his ears early on and at the very end and even if it is not completely shown and elaborated on that he is actually listening to L. Capaldi, I thought he did. Another theory could be that the lyrics are the thought in the protagonist's mind because it makes sense and goes together with what he sees and experiences. Now I do not really want to stretch this review much longer because you should not take longer to read it than to listen to the actual song and watch the music video, but I think you should do both. IIt''s a success (not a triumph) from any perspective. Thumbs-up!
