Kavaludaari (2019)

A slow paced, intriguing crime thriller with some standout performances!
12 April 2019
This film's trailer and songs had set great expectations from the director Hemanth Rao especially after his exceptional directorial debut "Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu" back in 2016. However the expectations don't seem to have lived up to that extent in this movie. The story begins when Shyam (Rishi of Operation Alamelamma fame), a traffic policeman who is bored of his work and wants to move to the crime branch, gets fascinated when the skeletal remains of a family related to an old murder case are found at a metro construction site. He secretly follows up the case and begins his hunt for the murderer and the links related to it. This leads him to retired police inspector Mutthanna (Anant Nag) who was originally in-charge of the case and who now lives a life of solitude, drinking all day long. Once Shyam gains Mutthanna's trust, they both team up and continue the hunt. There are many other characters who appear in between and the movie throws up some intriguing twists and turns. The pace of the movie is slow right from the beginning until the end and the film gets gripping only in the last 30 minutes. Also the length of the movie must have been shorter. Except for these two things, the film has its own bewildering & intriguing moments and is otherwise a good watch and won't disappoint you. The acting is also realistic with the star cast having performed brilliantly especially Rishi, Anant Nag and Achyuth Kumar who are the standout performers. Paired with this is the excellent cinematography by Advaitha Gurumurthy and some mind boggling mysterious music (mainly the song Nigooda) by Charan Raj. Overall you can watch this movie if you have the patience to sit through a slow paced thriller or if you are a psychological crime thriller movie enthusiast.
