Not doing anything for me

Warning: Spoilers
"Schubert in Love: Vater werden ist (nicht) schwer" directed by Lars Büchel and he is also one of the wriiters working on this project is a German 1.5-hour film from 2016. It is not too uncommon that successful German comedians have their own movies. Barth has one, Ceylan has one, Schröder has one, Pocher has one etc. Many many do. Certainly not the most respected names thinking of it. Now Olaf Schubert can be added to that "illustrous" circle. Yeah well, at least sometimes some of these comedians are mildly funny. Schubert I personally always find annoying and there is nothing likable or creative to his know-it-all comedy alter ego and I am well aware that is not the man's real personality. Now for this movie here, he plays said alter ego in attempts to find a woman and as the title "it is (not) hard to become a father" makes obvious already, a great part of the film at its very core is about finding a girl and becoming a dad. But this is not enough for the running time. Sure there are some tolerable gags in-between that are not all bad, but as a whole I think the three writers/cooks spoiled the broth here, i.e. the script. The film already starts extremely weak with some strange bizarre reference that Schubert says he is the son/grandson etc. of people like Gailelo Galilei, Jesus Christ etc. That neither made any sense whatsoever nor was particularly funny. I am sure some people here will see something creative or intelligent in this movie, but I guess it is only those who also think Schubert is talented on the heute show, a German trashy satire magazine about politics that is pretty famous and appreciated by many. And with these "many" I also mean the easily influenced who are not (yet) ready to look beyond the garbage and propaganda certain German television stations serve them. Okay I am drifting away. Back to these 90 minutes here. Female co-lead Marie Leuenberger is if at all minimally better only than Schubert, which means equally bad. And I have no idea why Mario Adorf agreed to appear in here. I mean there are thousands of better ways to end his spectacular career and he sure is not in need of any money either. Pretty disappointing. I really like him as an actor in general, so no idea what he was thinking I must say. Yeah I wish i could say more about the story, but it is really uninspired, uncreative and forgettable. It feels much more about the makers relying on the jokes they wrote for Schubert's character and his mannerisms and line delivery in general. Which is not all bad necessarily, but would have worked better as a stage comedy show. If this here can be called a movie, then it is a really bad one without a single truly memorable (in the positive sense) production value. A contenderfor 2016's worst German movie. There is a reason it has received no awards recognition and rightfully so. Highly not recommended. Watch something else instead.
